GGCT is paying close attention to the tsunami in Indonesia

The Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) is paying close attention to the tsunami that occurred in Banten province, Indonesia, and maintains close contact with the tourism industry for follow up.
From the information gathered through the Macao travel industry, no request for assistance from Macao residents has been received. Until the present moment, GGCT has also not received any request for information or assistance.

Macao Light Festival 2018 extended to 20th January 2019

The “Macao Light Festival 2018 – Time Travel in Macao” has attracted many residents and visitors since its launch on 2nd December, it has also been widely and positively covered by the media. In order to enable more residents and visitors to enjoy the illuminations and to prolong its compelling effect as a mega event, the Festival is extended to 20th January 2019 at some of the locations covered.


UM professor’s linguistics paper contributes to Cantonese-English translation

A paper written by Ronald Fong, an assistant professor from the Department of English, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), has published in the renowned academic journal Translation Research and Teaching. Titled ‘A Cognitive Analysis of the Cantonese Motion-Directional Construction and its Implications for Translation’, the article contributes to translation studies on equivalent structures between English and Cantonese. It is also the only article in the journal that discusses topics related to the Cantonese language.


Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau publishes Reading Map of Macao 2018

Published by the Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Reading Map of Macao 2018 has been released in Chinese-Portuguese and Chinese-English bilingual editions. The map features cultural routes linking different World Heritage sites, aiming to promote Macao’s distinctive reading venues close by residents and tourists.


18th Macao City Fringe Festival well-received by the public leading the audience to rediscover the exceptional in everyday life

Tickets for the 18th Macao City Fringe Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, went on sale in December. Sales reached a satisfactory result. Limited tickets are still available for some of the performances. The public are advised to purchase as soon as possible.


Consumer price index (CPI) for November 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in November 2018 increased by 3.12% year-on-year to 113.96, a decrease of 0.23 percentage points from the 3.35% growth in October. The increment in November was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, higher rentals for dwellings, rising parking meter rates as well as increasing prices of gasoline and adults’ clothing.


Visitor arrivals for November 2018

In view of the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, visitor arrivals increased by 15.3% year-on-year to 3,266,283 in November 2018, and a month-to-month growth of 3.6%. Overnight visitors (1,589,246) and same-day visitors (1,677,037) rose by 5.1% and 26.9% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors rising by 0.1 day to 2.2 days and that of same-day visitors staying at 0.2 day.


Macao's Base Rate of the Discount Window Raised to 2.75%

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) raised the Base Rate of the Discount Window today (21 December 2018) by 25 basis points to 2.75%. It has been the fourth time for the AMCM to raise the policy rate this year.


CE calls for further Macao participation in the country’s reform and opening up process

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, today called for further Macao participation in the country’s strategy of promoting deeper national reform and introducing new opening-up policies, under the principle of “serving the country’s needs, delivering Macao’s strengths”.


Government announces decorations and medals for 2018

The Government has announced on Wednesday (19 December) Decorations, Medals and Certificates of Merit awarded for 2018 by the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR). They are being given to 46 individuals and organisations in recognition of, respectively, achievement, outstanding contribution and distinguished service.
