Consumer Council released its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included 12 supermarkets in Santo António Parish

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 20 August for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Horte e Costa, Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga and Rua da Emenda areas in Santo António Parish.


Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 2nd quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors in the second quarter of 2018 grew by 20.0% year-on-year to MOP16.50 billion and edged up by 0.5% quarter-to-quarter. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP13.36 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP3.14 billion) increased by 17.4% and 32.7% respectively year-on-year.

Consumer price index (CPI) for July 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in July 2018 increased by 3.33% year-on-year to 113.11, up by 0.22 percentage points from the 3.11% growth in June. The increment in July was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings, higher parking meter rates and increasing prices of gasoline and adults’ clothing.


UM holds convocation to welcome 2,000 new students Rector Song encourages students to increase global competitiveness

The University of Macau (UM) today (20 August) held the convocation and an orientation seminar for the 2018/2019 academic year for over 2,000 new students. UM Rector Yonghua Song gave the new students their first lecture at UM. During the talk, he discussed how,against the background of the fourth industrial revolution, leading universities around the world should evolve and nurture outstanding professionals with a creative mindset to meet the challenges of today’s world. He also encouraged students to treasure their time in college and make the most of UM’s outstanding teaching environment and research resources, in order to increase their competitiveness in a global environment and inject a creative energy into China and Macao.


Optimising facilities to maintain water supply in case of emergency

The Government has been optimising plans for ensuring the security of Macao’s water supply citywide in the event of public emergency, while pressing ahead with construction of a fourth pipeline to bring water from the mainland, in order to enhance stability of local supply.
