Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for June 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that 47% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reported a year-on-year rise in receipts in June, up by 6 percentage points from May; the corresponding proportions of Chinese Restaurants (65%) and Western Restaurants (37%) each increased by 11 percentage points. On the other hand, the share of interviewed establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts decreased by 3 percentage points over May to 26%, with the corresponding proportion of Japanese & Korean Restaurants (7%) reducing by 20 percentage points.


New Opportunities for MPI Students to Intern in Chongqing Enterprises

During the summer vacation, the Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organized nearly 30 students of different programmes to participate in the Chongqing Internship Programme for the youth of Hong Kong and Macao, which was hosted by the Chongqing Talents Exchange Service Center. The 36-day work experience has played an important role in enhancing MPI students’ understanding of Chinese corporate culture, broadening their horizons, and enhancing their employment competitiveness.


Secretary Alexis Tam led delegation on familiarization visit to Bay Area     MGTO culminates mission with destination promotion in Shenzhen

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Alexis Tam, led a delegation comprising officials of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Sports Bureau as well as members of Tourism Development Committee and Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee to visit several cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area for familiarization with their tourism attractions and facilities. The mission was organized by MGTO with the aim to foster multi-destination tourism and push forward the work of the Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area. Riding on the mission, MGTO kicked off a two-day Macao travel roadshow in Shenzhen, the last city to visit, today (18 August) to showcase the tourism resources and new brand of Macao as a Creative City of Gastronomy.


Seizing new opportunities UM students complete summer internships in Greater Bay Area

With the implementation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area initiative, young people from Macao now have an exciting new option when deciding where to pursue their careers after graduation. Several University of Macau (UM) students served internships in the Greater Bay Area in the just-ended summer holiday. What have they learned from their internship experiences? Financial institutions in Macao participated for the first time in distribution of RMB 5 billion of “Land Reserve Special Bond for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area”

The Government of Guangdong Province issued the “Land Reserve Special Bond for the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area” yesterday (August 16). Three Macao financial institutions have participated in distribution of RMB 5 billion of the special bond. It is the first time that Macao financial institutions participate in the distribution of Mainland municipal bonds, and Macao is in fact the first region outside the Mainland that has financial institutions participating in the distribution of municipal bonds through settlement agencies. These financial institutions will distribute the special bond in the form of wealth management products to Macao residents who may then have a chance to participate in the investment projects in the Greater Bay Area.


UM scholar’s co-authored paper receives Best Paper Award

Jacey Choe Jayoung, an assistant professor of international integrated resort management from the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau (UM), recently received the Best Paper Award at the Eighth International Conference on Tourism (ICOT), for her paper titled ‘Understanding Food Tourists’ Hierarchical Consumption Value Maps’. The paper is co-authored by Jacey Choe and Oh Munhyang from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.


“3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” – call for submissions of works

Applications for the “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, can be submitted from today (16 August) until 30 September. All interested artists from all over the world are welcome to participate in this Triennial


Tickets for the dance drama “Haojiang Moonlight Night – Dragon Boat Racing” on sale from Sunday

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Cultural Affairs Bureau presents the dance drama “Haojiang Moonlight Night – Dragon Boat Racing” on 20 and 21 September, at 8pm, at The Venetian Theatre. The dance drama is jointly organized by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, counting on the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR, as well as with the cooperation of the Culture Department of Guangdong Province, China. Tickets will be on sale from Sunday (19 August) at the Macau Ticketing Network.
