Exchange for Dog and Pig zodiac banknotes starting from Aug 27, 2018

The online registration process for the exchange of the Dog and Pig Zodiac Banknotes for the two Issuing Banks has already been completed successfully. Starting from August 27, all participating banks will conduct the exchange of the mentioned zodiac banknotes with registrants. After consolidating the registration data, it is confirmed that each registered Macao resident can proceed with the exchange for 40 pieces of Dog and 40 pieces of Pig Banknotes of each Issuing Bank, namely 80 pieces of Dog and Pig Banknotes respectively from each of the two Issuing Banks, thus totaling the exchange for 160 notes.



Activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of Sir Robert Ho Tung Library begin

In order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and to commemorate the generosity of Sir Robert Ho Tung in donating the building to the Macao Government for the establishment of a public library, the Cultural Affairs Bureau holds a series of activities in August, including a thematic talk, a sketching activity, a guided tour, etc., as well as a plaque unveiling ceremony. A thamatic website will be launched so as to present the public the history and the development of Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and of the Chinese Ancient Books Chamber.


Over 460 students from around the world participate in UM’s Portuguese Language Summer Course

The University of Macau (UM) Department of Portuguese today (3 August) held a closing ceremony for the 32nd Portuguese Language Summer Course. The three-week intensive course attracted 460 students of different cultural backgrounds from more than ten countries and regions. Under the guidance of 23 Portuguese-speaking teachers, the students studied together and communicated with each other in Portuguese. Participants are very happy with the course, saying that UM provides a very good environment for learning Portuguese, and that the course not only improved their daily conversation skills in Portuguese, but also enhanced their understanding of the cultures of Portuguese-speaking countries.


Starting Today, Seniors Aged 75 or Older can Apply for Withdrawal of Funds from the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System’s Individual Accounts

Starting in August, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao), in stages by age group, accepts the applications for withdrawal of funds from eligible individual account owners of the non-mandatory central provident fund system. Starting today, seniors who are 75 years of age or older, individuals who have received disability pension from the FSS for more than one year, or those who are currently receiving special disability subsidy from the Social Welfare Bureau may apply for withdrawal of funds from individual accounts of the non-mandatory central provident fund system. Starting in September, the FSS will accept applications for withdrawals from seniors aged between 65 and 74.




Two new systems available to issue alerts during public emergencies

Two new emergency warning systems will come into operation later this month. The systems are designed to strengthen the city’s public emergency alert system, in order to share important safety information during emergencies.
