“The Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018” Ends in Great Success

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018 (2018 GMBPF), held for three consecutive days, ended today (29th) and proved to be a resounding success. The atmosphere at various exhibition areas was very vibrant, with residents and visitors able to have fun shopping while exhibitors reported pleasing sales volume. During the three-day event, the number of visitors was pretty much the same as last year. To extend the effectiveness of the event, guided tours to local neighbourhoods for exhibitors were organised to boost community economies and benefit local SMEs.



Consumer Council released specific price survey results on diapers, OTC drugs, and milk powder

Consumer Council conducted its specific price survey on diapers, over-the-counter drugs, and milk powder on 30 July for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Results of the mentioned survey has been uploaded to the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), it is also available on the Council’s “Posto das Informações de Preços em Macau” iPhone and Android apps, as well as on the Council’s WeChat account page.


Macao’s publications presented in the National Book Expo in Shenzhen Excellent books show success of Sino-Western cultural exchange

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and the Macao Foundation jointly presented the ‘Macao Pavilion’ once again at the 28th National Book Expo, which started on 19 July in Shenzhen. In this energetic city, the Macao Pavilion attracted a ceaseless flow of readers and exhibitors from other cities and provinces, introducing Macao’s cultural achievements through fine books and painting albums.


“Macao Pavilion” at the Hong Kong Book Fair promotes Macao’s culture of book diversity

The Macao Foundation and the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) co-operate for the eighth consecutive year in setting up the “Macao Pavilion” at the “2018 Hong Kong Book Fair”, holding a joint exhibition with the Macao Polytechnic Institute and the bookshop Plaza Cultural Macau, Lda. In order to promote Macao’s diversified publishing culture, the organiser has displayed excellent works of over 20 local entities in the publishing sector. The growth in the number of entities showcases the diversity within Macao’s publishing industry and encourages the development of the local sector. The “Macao Pavilion” has attracted a good number of visitors, creating a lively environment.


Macao Public Library Launches 15th Issue of Books and the City

The 15th issue of Books and the City, a quarterly by the Macao Public Library under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is now available for free collection. In view of the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, the feature of this issue provides a clear overview of the Library’s history and dedicates itself as a ‘love letter’ to the Library, featuring precious memories of all those years recalled from different perspectives to take readers on a journey through the Library’s past.


Hong Kong secondary school teachers and students visit MPI to experience excellence in higher education

In order to strengthen the cooperation and exchange in the field of education between Hong Kong and Macao, the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) held a learning experience day from July 4th to 9th. It attracted more than 100 teachers and students from Hong Kong secondary schools to experience the learning life of excellence in higher education in MPI and Macao.


The combination of culture, creativity and communities, MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Opens

“The MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Activities 2018” hosted by the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre, Macao Polytechnic Institute opened at MPI at 9:30 am on 9th July (Monday). The activity aims to enable secondary school students to utilize their creative talents and hopes to enhance their appreciation of Macao's cultural and creative industry and their artistic abilities. The summer camp activities are popular among the high school students of Macao. Participants said that they have benefited a lot from the activities and they hope to contribute to the Macao cultural and creative industry in the future.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for June 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours totalled 682,000 in June 2018, up by 3.1% year-on-year and yet down by 4.0% month-to-month. Package tour visitors from Mainland China (515,000) edged down by 0.1%, while those from the Republic of Korea (45,000) and Taiwan (59,000) surged by 16.5% and 67.6% respectively. In the first half year of 2018, visitors on package tours totalled 4,274,000, up by 13.8% year-on-year.
