Macao to sign document detailing participation in ‘Belt and Road’ initiative

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will visit Beijing on 5 December to sign a document with the National Development and Reform Commission aimed at advancing Macao’s full participation in, and contribution to, the “Belt and Road” initiative.


IFT’s Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training holds “Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism Development and Destination Marketing” training programme Participants visit Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture

The IFT’s Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training organised a training programme titled “Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism Development and Destination Marketing” from 21 to 28 November. Twenty-two representatives of government departments from Cambodia, Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Timor-Leste, the World Tourism Organization(UNWTO), Greater Bay Area and Macao participated in the training. This is the sixth training held by the Centre.


Art Promotion Mini Parade to be held at the Ruins of St. Paul’s this weekend

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “2018 Macao International Parade”, celebrating the 19th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China, will be held on 16 December. The Organizer is holding an “Art Promotion Mini Parade” this weekend (1 and 2 December), at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, allowing residents and tourists to experience the charm of the Parade in advance and have fun with the arts groups.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter 2018

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the third quarter of 2018. Survey coverage for this quarter comprises Manufacturing; Hotels; Restaurants; Insurance; Financial Intermediation Activities; Electricity, Gas & Water Supply; Child-care and Elderly Care. This survey excludes the self-employed, as well as insurance agents and brokers not directly employed by insurance companies.


External merchandise trade statistics for October 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for October 2018 amounted to MOP1.06 billion, up by 31.2% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP937 million) increased by 35.7%, with that of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products surging notably by 749.9%; moreover, value of domestic exports (MOP126 million) grew by 4.9%, with that of Tobacco increasing by 39.6%. Total merchandise import rose by 37.8% year-on-year to MOP8.53 billion, of which imports of Mobile phones, Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Watches soared by 179.4%, 77.6% and 54.7% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in October amounted to MOP7.46 billion.


Signing of the Cooperation Agreement between Bank of Portugal and Monetary Authority of Macao to Deepen Collaboration

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) recently signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Bank of Portugal (the central bank) to further deepen the cooperation between the two institutions in various areas.


MGTO holds “Communication with people with disabilities” training session and “Celebrity Mentor” Workshop in November

In parallel with the scheme implemented by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government to create an optimized barrier-free environment in Macao, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) organized a training session titled “Communication with people with disabilities” for its staff on 26 November to upgrade their service for people with special needs. Also, under the umbrella of the “Celebrity Mentor” Workshop Series, the themed workshop on “Sales and consumer mentality” was presented on 27 November by MGTO in collaboration with Sands Retail Academy to optimize retail service quality in Macao and lead the local retail trade towards an advanced level of professionalism.

UM’s Mandarin Debating Team wins championship at International Chinese Debating Competition 2018

The University of Macau (UM) Mandarin Debating Team recently won the championship at the International Chinese Debating Competition 2018, after beating its counterpart from the University of Malaya. Ji Jiaqi from the UM team won the Overall Best Speaker Award.
