UM wins top three prizes and other awards at Macao-wide English Speech Contest

Eight members of the University of Macau (UM) English Public Speaking Team recently participated in the 17th Macao-wide English Speech Contest and the 24th ‘21st Century Cup’ National English Speaking Competition Macao Regional Contest. They won the top three prizes, the Best Impromptu Speaker Award, the Best Manner Award, and five merit awards in the university category.



“2018 Macao International Parade” highlights the cultural encounter between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries and expands the scale of the event

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “2018 Macao International Parade”, celebrating the 19th Anniversary of Macao’s handover to China, will be held on Sunday, 16 December. Based on the concept of cultural encounter between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and associated with the classic myths and folklore of China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, the Parade presents a culturally rich Handover celebration, highlighting Macao’s unique position as an important hub between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.


2018 Macao International Parade presents figures of the mythology and folklore from China and the Portuguese-speaking countries

In celebration of the 19th anniversary of Macao’s handover to China, the “2018 Macao International Parade” is an annual cultural event that gathers artistic talent and creativity in Macao. This year, the Parade presents ten figures of the mythology and folklore of China, Macao and eight Portuguese-speaking countries, which represent the cultural essence of the respective countries and regions and promote the Parade as an exchange platform for culture and arts.


Consumer Council published latest Consumer Report Featuring test reports and Code of Practice for pet products and services

The Consumer Council published issue no. 303 Consumer Report, featuring a report on the testing of boxed tissue papers and sanitary napkins, as well as a feature on the publication of the “Code of Practice for Pet Products and Services”. Funds of the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System’s Individual Accounts to be Transferred Tomorrow to Senior Citizens Aged 65 to 74

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will make payments tomorrow (23 November) to 34,745 applicants of the second phase who are eligible for the withdrawal of funds of the non-mandatory central provident fund system’s individual accounts, and it has started to notify the individuals above of the outcome of applications by mail or by mobile text messages (SMS).


Guangdong-Macao meeting heralds Greater Bay Area advances

The latest high-level meeting of officials from Guangdong Province and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) concluded with an understanding for the two places to work together in advancing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area).


The 10th Higher Education International Conference on Innovation and Developments in Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance was held by the Macao Polytechnic Institute

In order to explore the development in teaching and learning in countries along the Belt and Road countries and other regions, to share the developments in higher education quality assurance and facilitate the enhancement of quality in higher education in Macao, Macao Polytechnic Institute once again joined forces with the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) to organise the 10th Higher Education International Conference on Innovation and Developments in Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance. Over 40 experts and scholars in higher education coming from the United Kingdom, Portugal, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and other countries and regions gathered in Macao to explore factors affecting the quality of higher education, and share the trends and developments in the quality assurance in teaching and learning. More than two hundred instructors, researchers and students from local higher education institutions attended the seminars and shared their experience with the experts enthusiastically. Many academic achievements were attained.


Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter of 2018 -Banking sector

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of full-time employees of the 27 banks in Macao increased by 190 year-on-year to 6,312 at the end of the third quarter of 2018. Analysed by occupation, there were 1,750 directors and managers, and 2,011 clerks (including 679 bank tellers).


MGTO evaluates event effectiveness for work optimization Two Effectiveness Evaluation studies completed

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) continues to conduct the “Macao Tourism Branding and Media Effectiveness Evaluation of Mega Events” this year to evaluate the impact of four major events and their contribution to the tourism branding of Macao, with the aim to actively optimize its work and enhance the effectiveness of its events.
