Consumer price index (CPI) for June 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in June 2018 increased by 3.11% year-on-year to 112.84, up further by 0.14 percentage points from the 2.97% growth in May. The increment in June was attributable to higher charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings and parking meter rates, as well as increasing prices of gasoline and women’s clothing & footwear.



UM rector, vice-rector visit Angola to strengthen collaboration with lusophone universities

As part of the effort to support the Macao SAR government’s strategy to develop the city into a service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, a delegation led by University of Macau (UM) Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rector (Research) Rui Martins recently visited Angola to strengthen collaboration between UM and Portuguese-speaking universities. During the visit, Rector Song and Vice Rector Martins met with the Chinese ambassador in Angola and Angola’s minister of higher education, science, technology, and innovation. They also visited Agostinho Neto University, participated in the 28th annual meeting of the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP), and signed a collaboration agreement with Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University, whose rector, Prof Orlando da Mata, is the current president of the AULP.


MGTO visits youth organization to enhance understanding of local youth development and explore collaborative ways to promote Macao as a Creative City of Gastronomy

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) paid a visit to Junior Chamber International Macao, China (JCI Macao, China) today (19 July) to introduce the four-year action plan of Macao as a Creative City of Gastronomy and learn more about the directions in professional development of youths in different realms, besides discussions with core members of JCI Macao, China and its affiliated local chapters (Local Organization Members) to explore collaborative ways to manifest the charm and creativity of Macao as a Creative City of Gastronomy to the world.


High-end Start-up and IT International Seminar First Held in Macao. Interactive Session Designed to Help Local Companies Gain experience and Expand International Perspective

f.ounders, an international seminar focused on start-ups and information technology, was for the first time held in Macao, attracting about 180 leading figures from IT companies from Asia, Europe and Americas. The organiser spoke highly of the exhibition venues and supporting facilities in Macao which can be adopted for different types of events. The seminar also set up a special session, wherein internationally-renowned start-ups were invited to share insights with Macao enterprises. As per the invitation of the event organiser, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) arranged for local enterprises to participate in the event. Local companies participating in the conference all recognised the significance of the event, and took the opportunity to draw wisdom from the valuable and inspiring business experience shared by companies from all over the world.


Exhibition Room of Master Lu Ban’s Woodcraft Works closes temporarily on 22 July

July is a Contribution Month and FSS Reminds Employers to Pay Contributions as Soon as Possible

For the social security system, July is the contribution month for the second quarter of this year. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds that the flow of people at the service point is expected to increase at the end of the month. In order to avoid the peak flow at month end, employers should make their payment as soon as possible, and those who have applied for electronic filing service should try to make use of the electronic payment options to make their payments. As of 18 July, a total of 13,378 employers have already paid contributions of the obligatory system for their employees, accounting for 63% of the total number of employers who need to pay contributions.
