July is a Contribution Month and FSS Reminds Employers to Pay Contributions as Soon as Possible

For the social security system, July is the contribution month for the second quarter of this year. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds that the flow of people at the service point is expected to increase at the end of the month. In order to avoid the peak flow at month end, employers should make their payment as soon as possible, and those who have applied for electronic filing service should try to make use of the electronic payment options to make their payments. As of 18 July, a total of 13,378 employers have already paid contributions of the obligatory system for their employees, accounting for 63% of the total number of employers who need to pay contributions.


CE to attend Legislative Assembly meeting on 9 August

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will attend a plenary session of the Legislative Assembly on 9 August (Thursday) to answer Assembly members’ questions on Government policy and social issues.


CEM,UM jointly offer Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering Programme

A graduation ceremony for participants of the one-year Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering Programme, jointly offered by Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) and the University of Macau (UM), was held on 28 June 2018. Officiating guests at the ceremony included Prof Rui Martins, vice rector (research) of UM; Mr Benjamin Yue, principal advisor of the Executive Committee of CEM; and Prof Leung Shing On, director of UM’s Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). At the ceremony, diplomas were awarded to 22 graduates.


Government explains follow-up work after Yut Yuen exits current facilities

The Government reiterated today that Macao (Yut Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd has to move out of its current facilities after the firm’s greyhound racing betting concession expires on Friday (20 July).



Consumer Council released its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’on Sé Parish

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 18 July for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in Sé Parish.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for May 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that 41% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reported a year-on-year rise in receipts in May, down by 6 percentage points from April; the corresponding proportion of Western Restaurants (26%) reduced by 11 percentage points. On the other hand, the share of interviewed establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts increased by 7 percentage points over April to 29%, with the corresponding proportion of Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (31%) rising by 10 percentage points.


Macao Consumer Council attended UNCTAD meeting as Chinese delegates with State Administration for Market Regulation representative

The United Nations Conference on trade and Development (UNCTAD) held the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy, third session, at the United Nations Office at Geneva on 9th to 10th July. The Macao Consumer Council, together with a representative from The State Administration for Market Regulation of the People’s Republic of China, attended the meeting as Chinese delegates. The Council noticed that delegates from many countries proposed using laws and regulations to protect consumer rights, moreover, the Council also met with representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries and introduced them the policy of establishing Macao as “The Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”.
