UM’s 32nd Portuguese Language Summer Course attracts record number of students

The 32nd Portuguese Language Summer Course, organised by the University of Macau (UM) Department of Portuguese, opened at UM today. This year’s course attracted a record number of 461 students from around the world, six of whom are Macanese residing in the United States who are keen to come to their ancestral place of origin to learn one of their heritage languages.


GMBPF Moves Forward with the Times with Diversified Elements and Opens a New Chapter of Co-operation

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair 2018 (2018GMBPF) will be held at the Venetian Macao from 27 to 29 July. As a flagship annual event for Guangdong and Macao encompassing trade, cultural exchanges, shopping, leisure and entertainment, the GMBPF has received extensive recognition from all sectors of the community. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the 2018GMBPF features a diversified range of activities and has encouraged wider participation of premium brands, deepening the economic and trade co-operation between Guangdong and Macao and promoting the economic diversification of Macao by serving as a bridge for economic and trade co-operation between Macao and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.


Entering its 10th Year, MFE Playing an Outstanding Role as a Platform for Franchise Brands Cooperation

The Macao Franchise Expo 2018 (2018MFE) will be held at the Venetian Macao from 27 to 29 July. The three-day expo will gather internationally renowned franchise brands and trade visitors to build an important platform for international exchange and co-operation. During the MFE, various activities will serve as a bridge to connect different enterprises and generate golden opportunities.



DSI introduced online application for Certificate of Personal Data

To facilitate application of electronic administration advocated by the Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government, endeavor in extending online services has been continuously made by the Identification Services Bureau (DSI). Following the online application for the Certificate of Criminal Record and the Certificate of Association and Foundation, online application for the Certificate of Personal Data commenced service today.


Beneficiaries of Temporary Disability Allowance to Automatically Change to Receive Disability Pension from October

To better provide basic social security for people with disabilities, the Government of the Macao SAR has established the “temporary disability allowance” as a long-term measure through the making of law. Law No. 6/2018 was published in the Official Gazette today (July 16). From October 1, the application requirement for the disability pension in the current social security system, “the disability must occur after a person qualifies as a beneficiary” will be abolished, so that the disability pension can be universally applied to all persons with disabilities.


2018 Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Film Production Investment and Trade Fair Call for Submissions of Macao Film Projects

The 2018 Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Film Production Investment and Trade Fair (hereinafter referred to as “the Fair”), will be held in September, with the aim of providing an exchange platform for film producers and investors from the three regions and of facilitating pairing services, investment opportunities and the development of film projects. The Fair is now calling for submission of Macao film projects and all interested parties from the film industry are welcome to submit their works. The call for submissions is open from 16 July (Monday) until 5pm on 27 July (Friday) 2018.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – June 2018

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP153.1 billion (USD18.94 billion) at the end of June 2018. The reserves decreased by 0.1% from the revised value of MOP153.2 billion (USD18.97 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-June 2018 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 80.3% of pataca M2 at end-May 2018.
