Five research projects receive Academic Research Grant from the Cultural Affairs Bureau

In order to encourage original academic research on the culture of Macao and the exchanges between Macao, Mainland China and other countries, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has set up the Academic Research Grant programme. After an evaluation process, five research projects from local and overseas scholars received the 2018 Academic Research Grant.


Chair Professor of University of Macau Wins the 2018 Norbert Wiener Award

2018 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (IEEE SMC 2018) was held in Miyazaki, Japan this October. The news from the conference is that C. L. Philip Chen, the chair professor of Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau, wins the 2018 Norbert Wiener Award for his outstanding contributions in the areas of machine learning, pattern understanding, and image classification.


UM graduate ranked first under Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Programme

Zhang Jinming, a PhD graduate of the University of Macau (UM), was ranked the first on the list (2018-2020) of awardees under the Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Programme organised by the China Association for Science and Technology.

Credit card statistics –3rd quarter 2018

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the total number of personal credit cards issued by banks in Macao continued to rise in the third quarter of 2018. Both the credit card turnover and total repayments witnessed double-digit growth from a year ago.



32nd Macao International Music Festival concluded successfully

The 32nd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), was concluded on 28 October. As usual, this one-month long annual musical feast gathered several internationally renowned musicians and ensembles in Macao. The Festival also introduced new ideas and innovation, creating a number of joyful moments. The overall ticketing sales rate of this edition reached 95%, a highly satisfactory result that relied on the public’s enthusiastic support and participation.
