UM, Tsinghua jointly train postdoctoral scholars

The University of Macau (UM) and Tsinghua University have signed an agreement on the joint training of postdoctoral scholars. According to the agreement, UM and Tsinghua will jointly fund postdoctoral programmes, with the combined strengths and resources of the two universities in certain disciplines, including engineering, materials science, information science, and life science. The two universities will collaborate in cutting-edge research and postdoctoral training, in order to promote the development of strategic scientific research in China.

The deadline for applications for the “2018 Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Song Albums”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is 31 January (Thursday), at 5pm. All interested parties are welcome to take this chance to apply for the Programme.


Macao Orchestra presented spectacular concert in collaboration with violinist Tianwa Yang

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented the concert “Salute to Richard Strauss – Tianwa Yang and Macao Orchestra”, part of the Shining Virtuosos series, on 19 January at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, featuring Edouard Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole, in which acclaimed Chinese violinist Tianwa Yang displayed her virtuoso technique. The Orchestra also performed two classical symphonic masterpieces by Richard Strauss, Don Juan and Tod und Verklärung (Death and Transfiguration). The concert was well-received by the public. An autograph session was held with Tianwa Yang which attracted swarms of music aficionados. In addition, the violinist gave a master class on 18 January at the Macao Conservatory, in which she coached and exchanged views with the participating violin students.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Various functions available on website and app

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 21 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in São Lázaro and São Lourenço Parishes. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.

On 21 January, an opening ceremony was held in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter as “GMTCM Park”) for the enterprise Intertek Guangdong-Macao Testing Services Limited (Zhuhai) (hereinafter as “Intertek Zhuhai”), a joint venture co-established by Intertek Group UK, a globally leading total quality assurance provider from the UK, and Macao (Hengqin) Investment and Development Ltd.


International Gastronomy Forum opens in Macao gathering highest number of UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy

The “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao 2019” opened today (January 21) in Macao gathering a record number of participant UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy from around the world, in addition to cities from other creative fields and candidate cities from China, for discussions under the theme of “The Possibilities of Gastronomy and Creativity”. This year on its third edition, the forum organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is an important platform for Macao to interact with other cities and develop as a Creative City of Gastronomy.



January is a Contribution Month and FSS Reminds Employers to Pay Contributions as Early as Possible

For the social security system, January is the contribution month for the fourth quarter of 2018. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds that the flow of people at the service points is expected to increase nearing the end of the month. In order to avoid the peak flow at month end, employers should make their payments as early as possible, and those who have applied for electronic filing service should try to make use of the electronic payment options to make their payments. As of 18 January 2019, a total of 14,585 employers have already paid contributions of the obligatory system for their employees, accounting for 67% of the total number of employers who need to pay contributions.

UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy cooking show opens in Macao

A UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy Cooking Show kicked-off today (January 19) in Macao featuring young chefs from 20 Creative Cities of Gastronomy that during the weekend will go on stage to prepare their culinary creations, share their culture and inspiration with residents and visitors. The outdoor culinary demonstration is a highlight of the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao 2019”, and joins the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR).
