Bairro da Ilha Verde Library opens expanding reading area in the community and contributing to the development of Macao as a “City of Reading”

In order to optimise the reading resources of the community and contribute to the development of Macao as a “City of Reading”, the Bairro da Ilha Verde Library, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), was inaugurated today (30 September). The opening ceremony was officiated by the Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Government, Ho Iat Seng; the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ao Ieong U; the Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ho Ioc San; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man; the Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Teng Sio Hong; and the Student Ambassador of Culture of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Min U Ian. The Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Government, Ho Iat Seng, presided over the opening ceremony accompanied by the officiating guests. The Bairro da Ilha Verde Library is officially open, becoming a public cultural facility for preservation and dissemination of knowledge in the district of Ilha Verde.

IAM calls on owners to get their dogs vaccinated regularly on World Rabies Day

The United Nations designated 28 September every year as “World Rabies Day”. The theme this year, “Breaking Rabies Boundaries”, highlights the need to strengthen cross-border collaborations, make vaccination more accessible and raise public awareness. With the joint efforts of the different sectors of the community, there has been no cases of human or animal infection of rabies in Macao for over 40 years. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has been committed to implementing multiple measures, including the provision of free rabies vaccination service for suitable dogs and cats. IAM urges owners to get their dogs vaccinated regularly on the occasion of “World Rabies Day” to jointly realise the goal of zero rabies-related deaths by 2030.



Transport and communications statistics for August 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 251,378 as at end-August 2024, up by 0.3% year-on-year, with light automobiles (117,888) rising by 2.4%. New registration of motor vehicles in August went up by 12.2% year-on-year to 1,192 (including 346 electric vehicles); of which, light automobiles increased by 30.5% to 694 (202 of them were electric), whereas heavy motorcycles dropped by 11.7% to 409 (81 of them were electric). In the first eight months of 2024, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 4.7% year-on-year to 8,318 (2,509 of them were electric). Number of traffic accidents in August climbed by 11.9% year-on-year to 1,274, with 415 persons injured. In the first eight months of this year, there were 10,345 traffic accidents, which resulted in 2 deaths and 3,627 injuries.

During 22 to 27 September 2024, the Financial Intelligence Office of the Unitary Police Service (GIF) coordinated the Interdepartmental AML/CFT Working Group (AML/CFT WG) members to participate as Macao, China delegation in the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) Annual Meeting in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Registration for the mini marathon category of the ‘Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region - 2024 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon’, organized by the Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, started at 2:00 p.m. today (29 September).

Branding Macao’s diverse “tourism +” offerings at the largest international travel fair in Japan, the Office sought to attract Japanese visitors and tap into international markets.
