The 9th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum Creates a Platform to Help Enterprises Participate in the Belt and Road Initiative

The 9th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF), guided by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R, and jointly organised by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, will be held at the Venetian Macao from 7 to 8 June. More than 1,500 politicians, businessmen and academics from more than 60 countries and regions, including more than 50 government officials at the ministerial level or above from over 30 countries/regions will be joining the two-day event. The event is highly regarded and well received by the international enterprises and local industry. During this period, there will be many forums, business discussions, exhibitions and different activities, which will help enterprises to participate in and grasp the opportunities arising from the economic and trade co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and the Belt and Road Initiative.



Deputy Director, Department Heads and Division Head of Identification Services Bureau swore in

The Identification Services Bureau (DSI) held the inauguration ceremony for the deputy director on 4 June 2018 at 10 o’clock in the morning. The ceremony was hosted by the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Ms. Chan Hoi Fan. Under the witness of the Chief of Office of the Secretariat for Administration and Justice, Ms. Iao Man Leng, Ms. Wong Pou Ieng took an oath to assume the position of Deputy Director of DSI.


UM scholar publishes book on evaluating language assessments

Antony John Kunnan, Full Professor from the University of Macau (UM) Department of English, who is also the associate dean of UM’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH), recently published a new book, titled ‘Evaluating Language Assessment’, through Routledge, the world’s leading academic publisher in the field of humanities and social sciences.

The “Tianjin Exchange Programme for Macao Undergraduate Students” 2018 was inaugurated at the Institute for Tourism Studies, Macao (IFT) on 4 June. The programme was organised by Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR. Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, as well as Macao Foundation, and co-organised by IFT and College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University. The attending guests included Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Geng Hui Chang, Deputy Director of Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Zhang Yi, Deputy Secretary-General of Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Chen Sixi, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Wu Zhiliang, President of the Administrative Committee of Macao Foundation, members of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC, members of the National Committee of CPPCC and its Standing Committee, members of Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and its Standing Committee, representatives of IFT, Nankai University and other four Macao’s higher education institutions.


Upcoming Registration and Exchange of Dog and Pig Zodiac Banknotes

The online registration and exchange process of the Dog and Pig Zodiac Banknotes for the two Issuing Banks will be conducted jointly. Macao identity card holders can conduct the online registration via the webpage of the Monetary Authority of Macao (http://www.amcm.gov.mo/static/banknotes/terms_en.html) within the registration period from 9:00 am on 11 June until 6:00 pm on 29 June 2018.



UM to confer honorary degree on Nobel laureate Ada Yonath

The University of Macau (UM) on 9 June will hold the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary Degrees and UM’s Doctorhonoris causaLecture. During the event, the university will confer the Doctor of Sciencehonoris causadegree on Prof Ada Yonath, a Nobel laureate in chemistry, in recognition of her contributions to biomedical sciences. In addition, Prof Yonath will give a talk titled ‘Next Generation Species Specific Eco Friendly Antibiotics and Thoughts about Origin of Life’. All are welcome.


GGCT lowers Travel Alert for the Albay Province of the Philippines to Level 1

Given that the Mayon volcano in the Albay Province of the Philippines has attenuated, the Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) lowered the Travel Alert for that destination to Level 1.


MPI’s Diverse Activities Brushed Up Students’ English

The “Brushing Up Your English” activities created a campus-wide English learning environment at the Macao Polytechnic Institute (“MPI”) to enhance the students’ proficiency in the language. This series of activities, which was the fruitful outcome of a collaboration between the Student Affairs Office and the MPI-BELL Centre of English (the “Centre”), included an exam preparation course, an Easter party, a singing contest, a social interaction course, writing workshops, lunch gatherings and movie nights. Well received among the undergraduates, the activities not only brushed up their English but also further lightened the joyful campus atmosphere.
