UM holds first flag-raising ceremony

The University of Macau (UM) today (26 May) held its first flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the congregation day, becoming the first public university in Macao to have held a flag-raising ceremony on campus. Officials from the central government and Macao SAR government, prominent members of the community, as well as more than 800 faculty members and students attended the ceremony. Some students say that the ceremony increased their sense of belonging to China.



CE to visit Beijing for Beijing-Macao Cooperation Partnership

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, is to lead a Government delegation to Beijing for the launch ceremony of the Beijing-Macao Cooperation Partnership 2018 and the signing of some cooperation agreements.


Rising in ICCA´s Rankings for Two Consecutive Years Macao Jumps to 65th in Worldwide Ranking of the Convention Markets

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has recently released its International Meetings Market 2017 Report. According to the said report, Macao has obtained promotions in several facets for the second consecutive year. Namely, Macao jumps to 65th in worldwide city ranking and claimed the 16th place in Asia-Pacific. Furthermore, 39 international meetings held in Macao were recognised by ICCA. The results are encouraging.


UM PhD student receives Best Student Paper Award at International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology

Xie Danpeng, a PhD student from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), recently received the Best Student Paper Award at the International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology (ICMMT) 2018. Titled ‘Microstrip Leaky-Wave Antennas with Periodical Loading of Shorting Pins’, Xie’s paper has been ranked No 1 with the highest total score among all student papers at the conference.




Consumer Council released specific price survey results on diapers, OTC drugs, and milk powder

Consumer Council conducted its specific price survey on diapers, over-the-counter drugs, and milk powder on 25 May for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Results of the mentioned survey has been uploaded to the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), it is also available on the Council’s “Posto das Informações de Preços em Macau” iPhone and Android apps, as well as on the Council’s WeChat account page.



Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 1st quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors was MOP16.42 billion in the first quarter of 2018, up by 22.0% year-on-year. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2017, total visitor spending dropped by 9.7% due to the decline in number of visitor arrivals and their per-capita spending. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP12.68 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP3.74 billion) increased by 19.6% and 30.7% respectively year-on-year.
