UM ranked among the top globally in ESI in clinical medicine and four other fields
The University of Macau (UM) has been included in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database for ranking among the top 1 per cent in terms of citation frequency of published papers in the field of clinical medicine. In addition to this field, so far UM has been included in the database for ranking among the top 1 per cent in four other fields, namely engineering, pharmacology and toxicology, computer science, and social sciences, general. UM is one of the four universities in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan that have been included in the ESI database in a new field this year, which shows international recognition of UM’s research capacity.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for March 2018
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that 59% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reported a year-on-year rise in receipts in March, up by 10 percentage points from February. The corresponding proportion of Chinese Restaurants reached 82%, the highest proportion recorded since the survey began, and the share of Japanese & Korean Restaurants surged by 53 percentage points to 73%. Meanwhile, the share of interviewed establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts decreased by 16 percentage points over February to 19%. The corresponding proportion of Japanese & Korean Restaurants (13%) dropped by 33 percentage points.

“2018 Traditional Medicine International Development Forum (Thailand)” held on May 11, in Bangkok Leveraging the platform role as a bridge for ASEAN countries and Mainland China
Organized by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in collaboration with the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, and jointly co-ordinated by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter, “GMTCM Park”) and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor Association of Thailand, the “2018 Traditional Medicine International Development Forum (Thailand)” was solemnly inaugurated on May 10, 2018, in Bangkok, Thailand. Nearly 400 guests were present at the event, comprising representatives from relevant government authorities coming from 7 ASEAN countries, having engaged in discussions and in-depth exchanges on pertinent issues, in particular the current situation and development perspectives for the TCM industry. It has attracted a high participation in a very warm atmosphere, demonstrating Macao’s full role as a platform connecting the ASEAN countries with Mainland China in fostering their joint development of TCM, at international level.
