Macao Museum organizes various activities to mark the International Museum Day Carnival

The “2018 Macao International Museum Day Carnival”, co-organized by Macao’s museums, will be held on Sunday, 13th May. In response to this year’s International Museum Day, the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will launch a series of educational and entertaining activities in May, including workshops, guided tours and talks, in order to raise the public awareness to this date.

In response to the International Museum Day, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will organize a series of activities and exhibitions in May, including the “2018 Macao International Museum Day Carnival” on 13 May (Sunday), co-organized by Macao museums and the “2018 Night at the Museum” on 19 May (Saturday), co-organized by 5 museums, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, as well as a number of activities and two highlighted exhibitions in the same month.


2018 Macao International Museum Day Carnival Integrating mobile museum into community to reveal Taipa story

In response to this year’s International Museum Day, 17 museums in Macao co-organize a large-scale museum event, the “2018 Macao International Museum Day Carnival” themed “The Mobile Museum – Taipa Houses x Taipa Story” on Sunday, 13 May, at the Taipa Houses. The event features a wide range of activities, including exhibitions, VR and AR experience studios, workshops, game booths, guided tours and a photography area. All residents are welcome to participate.


Internationally renowned violinist Henning Kraggerud performs at the 29th Macao Arts Festival on 22 May

The concert “Henning Kraggerud and the Macao Orchestra”, integrated in the 29th Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held on Tuesday, 22 May, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, featuring Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud who will present the authentic sound of Norway in the dual roles of conductor and violinist. Only a limited number of tickets are available through the Macau Ticketing Network.


UM Dance Troupe represents Macao in national inter-varsity art show

The University of Macau (UM) Dance Troupe recently represented Macao at a national inter-varsity art show. The team was selected by the Department of Physical, Health and Arts Education of the Ministry of Education of China. This is the first time that a university in Macao has been selected to participate in this national event.


Transport and communications statistics for the 1st quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total number of licensed motor vehicles as at the end of March 2018 dropped by 2.6% year-on-year to 238,970, of which light motorcycles (28,182) and light automobiles (106,632) decreased by 15.2% and 3.2% respectively, whereas heavy motorcycles (96,453) rose by 2.5%. In the first quarter of 2018, new registration of motor vehicles went up by 10.4% year-on-year to 4,155 on account of an increase of 43.1% in light automobiles (1,660). There were 3,484 cases of traffic accidents in the first quarter, down by 2.6% year-on-year; number of victims totalled 1,150 and 2 of them were killed.



Visitor arrivals went up 4.7% to exceed 390,000 in three-day 1st May Labor Day holiday

According to records provided by the Public Security Police Force, Macao registered over 391,000 visitor arrivals (non-resident employees and students excluded) throughout the three-day 1st May Labor Day holiday (29th April – 1st May), a rise of 4.7% over the corresponding three-day holiday of last year. Over 361,000 visitors came from the Greater China markets, up by 7.6% in total. Visitor arrivals from the Mainland grew by 16.1% whereas the numbers of visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan dropped by 24.1% and 19.5% respectively. Other markets registered a fall of 21%.
