IFT holds “Creativity in Spring II — an exhibition of student works”

The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) hosted “Creativity in Spring II — an exhibition of student works” at the Team Building of IFT from 30 April to 31 July 2018. The general public are invited to come and appreciate the achievements of the students in the intermediate and advanced level of Graphic Design Programme, which was launched in collaboration with IFT and ESCOLA LUSO-CHINESA TÉCNICO PROFISSIONAL.


Macao Orchestra was invited to perform original opera Marco Polo in Guangzhou

The Macao Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was invited to perform the world premiere line-up’s original opera Marco Polo in three sessions from 4 to 6 May at the Guangzhou Opera House. The opera production is directed by the former Opera Director of the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, London, Kasper Holten, and is presented under the baton of the great Chinese conductor Tang Muhai, with the participation of notable singers from various countries, including China, Denmark and the United Kingdom. This performance is the second cooperation between the Guangzhou Opera House and the Macao Orchestra since the last opera Carmen.


DSI introduced brand new online service for application status enquiry

The Identification Services Bureau (DSI) introduced a brand new online service for application status enquiry on 30 April 2018, so as to provide convenience for citizens to obtain the information of their application status. In the first phase, the application status enquiry for the resident identity card, travel documents and the Certificate of Criminal Record was launched.


MGTO welcomes Labor Day holidays with preparatory measures

To gear up for the 1st May Labor Day holidays (29th April – 1st May) of Mainland China, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) prepared actively by carrying out a range of measures as follows: more rigorous inspections, allocation of personnel at various locations to handle enquiries and help divert the flow of visitors, sending letters of reminders to industry operators, food guide publication and supporting entities to organize festive and holiday activities, among others. The above measures aim to meet the needs of local residents and visitors and continuously optimize the tourism environment and service quality in the industry.


Consumer Council and other departments met up to prepare for Labour Day holiday

As Labour Day holiday is approaching, consumption by citizens are expected to increase, so are the number of inbound tourists. Consumer Council held a meeting earlier with Economic Services Bureau (DSE), Macao Government Tourist Office (DST), Transport Bureau (DSAT), Judiciary Police (PJ), Public Security Police Force (PSP), Macao Custom Service, Civic and Municipal Affairs Council (IACM), Health Bureau (SS), and Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) to discuss on the protection of consumer rights for local citizens as well as inbound tourists.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for March 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours rose by 12.4% year-on-year to 730,000 in March 2018, with a month-to-month increase of 19.3%. Package tour visitors from Mainland China (558,000), the Republic of Korea (50,000) and Taiwan (55,000) went up by 10.4%, 28.1% and 51.0% respectively year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2018, visitors on package tours totalled 2,144,000, up by 23.8% year-on-year.


External merchandise trade statistics for March 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for March 2018 amounted to MOP1.03 billion, down by 3.8% year-on-year; value of re-exports (MOP879 million) decreased by 4.2%, with that of Electronic components falling by 57.4%; moreover, value of domestic exports (MOP152 million) slid by 1.7%, with that of Tobacco decreasing by 51.1%. Total merchandise import rose by 21.9% year-on-year to MOP7.68 billion, of which imports of Mobile phones, Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Gold jewellery expanded by 179.2%, 64.9% and 33.7% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in March amounted to MOP6.65 billion.
