CE meets Japanese minister to discuss cooperation

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Japan plan to boost, on the basis of an existing close bilateral relationship, cooperation in areas such as commerce, tourism, cultural affairs, education, construction projects, and environmental protection.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – July 2019

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP167.0 billion (USD20.71 billion) at the end of July 2019. The reserves increased by 0.3% from the revised value of MOP166.4 billion (USD20.68 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-July 2019 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 80.4% of pataca M2 at end-June 2019.


“Macao・Creative City of Gastronomy” work meeting convened today to strengthen cross-field creativity and foster sustainable development

The second “Macao・Creative City of Gastronomy” annual work meeting was held today (13 August). Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, presided over the meeting and expressed affirmation for the contributions of different entities. He highlighted that Macao’s two glamorous calling cards, namely the designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and the enlisting of the Historic Centre of Macao on the World Heritage List, have gained wide recognition for Macao internationally, which is a boon for destination branding around the world. In the future, the city will carry on collaboration across fields as well as the public and private sectors, harness synergies with innovation and technology to raise Macao’s profile as a Creative City of Gastronomy in concerted efforts. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and other governmental departments concerned, academic institutes, industry organizations and so forth.


Sailings between Macao and Hong Kong Airport Cancelled

As the Hong Kong Airport Authority announced that all flights have been cancelled today, the sailing departing from Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal to Hong Kong International Airport, which is scheduled for 19:45, will be cancelled. The last sailing from Taipa has departed at 15:55. Passengers are advised to contact the ferry operators for sailing arrangement.


MGTO Director visits youth association again to hear the young’s perspectives on tourism prospect in the Greater Bay Area

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) paid a visit to the Macao Borderless Youth Association on 9 August to share about the development of community tourism, cultural tourism and the Macao Awareness Campaign, besides discussing with senior staff of the association about how to diversify tourism products and hearing local youths’ perspectives on involvement in tourism development across the Greater Bay Area.


Macao Museum of Art calls for exhibit proposals for the “The 17th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia – Exhibits from Macao, China”

The 17th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia will be held in May 2020 in Venice, Italy. The Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the Cultural Affairs Bureau is calling for exhibit proposals for the Macao-China Pavilion at the Biennale from today until 25th September. All interested individual curators and curatorial teams are welcome to submit their proposals.

UM inaugurates Institute of Collaborative Innovation to promote interdisciplinary research

The University of Macau (UM) recently held an inauguration ceremony in the Research Building (N21) for the Institute of Collaboration Innovation (ICI) and the centres under it. UM Rector Yonghua Song officiated at the ceremony. The ICI aims to nurture innovative professionals and promote interdisciplinary research in Macao, the Greater Bay Area, as well as universities in China and abroad, in order to create an environment that is conductive to the development of innovative ideas, innovative skills, entrepreneurship, as well as collaboration between industry, universities, and research institutes.


Consumer Council released 3rd supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the first-half of August on 12 August for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Santo António Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.
