Results of retail sales survey for 2nd quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the value and volume of retail sales recorded a year-on-year decrease in the second quarter of 2019, with the sales value falling by 0.8% to MOP17.86 billion and the sales volume dropping by 0.5%.

“Macao Film Week” presents ten productions depicting Macao’s stories from multiple perspectives
The “Macao Film Week”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from 11 to 14 September featuring ten local productions released in the years following Macao’s Handover to China. The screening will be held at the Cinematheque・Passion and the Macau University of Science and Technology. Admission is free. All are welcome to attend.

Consumer Council released 7th supermarket price survey report of the current month
The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of August on 22 August for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Santo António Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.

Consular corps accredited in Hong Kong and Macao visited exhibition integrated in “Art Macao”
On the occasion of the mega international arts and cultural event “Art Macao”, the MSAR Government invited members of the consular corps accredited in Hong Kong and Macao to participate in a visit organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, to an art exhibition integrated in the “Art Macao” event, on 20 August. The visit aimed to promote the concept of “A Cultural Macao” and to raise the reputation of this new iconic brand of cultural tourism at regional and international level, thus exploring more opportunities for future collaboration.

UM scholar develops smart detection technology for identifying potential congestive heart failure
Prof Tam Lap Mou from the University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Electromechanical Engineering received a Best Conference Paper Award at the 2019 Eurasia Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare and Sustainability of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), for his paper titled ‘A Smart Detection Technology for Personal Heartbeat Monitoring’.

Macao Honoured with “Best MICE City – Asia” Award
Macao has been presented with the “Best MICE City – Asia” Award in the first edition of the “M&C Asia Stella Awards 2019”. The award ceremony was organised by Northstar Travel Group and was held in Singapore on 20 August. The award is accepted by the representative of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute.

Ebola virus drug candidates discovered by UM PhD student attracts international attention
Faraz Mohammadali Shaikh, a PhD student from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), recently discovered two Ebola virus drug candidates. The groundbreaking discovery has been validated by collaborators from the University of Oxford through biological experiments, attracting international attention. Shaikh was awarded the Carl Storm International Diversity Fellowship, which sponsored him to attend the 2019 Computer-Aided Drug Design Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) and the 2019 Computer-Aided Drug Design Gordon Research Conference (GRC) in the United States to present his findings, in order to help the medical industry develop more anti-Ebola drugs.
