Employment survey for December 2017-February 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (1.9%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (2.5%) for December 2017-February 2018 increased slightly by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period (November 2017 - January 2018). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate remained unchanged at 0.4%.

Ahead of the highly anticipated announcement of “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018” list and awards ceremony tomorrow evening (March 27) in Macao, visiting chefs from renowned restaurants across Asia will be joining several gastronomy-related events to share their experience at educational and exchange sessions, along with visits to local markets and heritage to experience the east-meets-west cultural background of the city.


Consumer Report issue no. 295 features report on cooking oil

Cooking oil is essential to consumers’ daily diet, the Consumer Council and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) conducted a test on cooking oil together to check their quality and hygienic condition. All 15 samples of cooking oil tested pass the test but one sample is found to contain aflatoxin B1 and low level pollutants of benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), consumers are reminded to check carefully the product label and not to purchase oils when colour changes or turn rancid. Meanwhile, consumers should choose vegetable oil.
