Inauguration of the exhibition “Swiss Style Now”

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, the exhibition “Swiss Style Now”, was inaugurated on Friday, 23 March, at 6:30pm.The opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao S.A.R. Government, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Wan Sucheng; the Deputy Consul-General of Switzerland in Hong Kong, Andreas Rufer; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, Mok Ian Ian; the Chairman of the Macau Designers Association, James Chu and the curators Erich Brechbühl and Noël Leu.


The 22nd EU- Macao Joint Committee Meeting

The 22nd EU- Macao Joint Committee meeting was held in Macao on 23 March 2018, in accordance with Article 16 of the EC-Macao Trade and Co-operation Agreement of 15 December 1992. This was the sixteenth annual meeting since China’s resumption of the exercise of sovereignty over the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).


IPIM Organises Delegation of Representatives from Convention, Exhibition and Tourism Industries to Promote the Strengths of Macao´s MICE in Shanghai

Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised representatives of Macao convention and exhibition (also known as “MICE”) sectors and tourism industry to participate in the Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings (IT&CM China 2018) held in Shanghai from March 21 to 23. During the event, IPIM hosted a luncheon and two networking receptions, wherein a renowned Macanese chef was invited to prepare Macanese cuisine on-site and various concurrent activities with Sino-Luso characteristics were held, in an effort to promote Macao as a “Creative City of Gastronomy” and to highlight Macao´s unique strengths in the area of conventions and exhibitions. Coinciding with the “Thematic year of Shanghai-Macao Co-operation in MICE-related Activities 2018”, IPIM organised a delegation of representatives from the Macao convention, exhibition and tourism industries to participate in this event with a view to intensifying the exchange and co-operation between Macao´s MICE with their counterparts in Mainland China, especially with the operators in Shanghai. A series of subsequent events to strengthen Shanghai-Macao collaboration in MICE-related activities will also take place in Macao and Shanghai respectively.




Government monitoring influence of base interest rate hike

The Government is paying close attention to a recent increase in the base interest rate for Macao’s banking system, and the possible influence it could have on the city’s economy.

Visitor arrivals for February 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that attributable to the long Lunar New Year holidays, visitor arrivals reached 3,070,937 in February 2018, the highest figure since August 2014, increasing by 12.0% month-to-month and 23.1% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (1,396,068) and same-day visitors (1,674,869) went up by 13.3% and 32.6% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of overnight visitors held stable year-on-year at 2.2 days, while that of same-day visitors rose by 0.1 day to 0.3 day. As the proportion of same-day visitors (54.5% of visitor arrivals) increased by 3.9 percentage points year-on-year, the average length of stay of visitors decreased by 0.1 day to 1.1 days.


Over 90 per cent of UM graduates find jobs within 3 months of graduation

The University of Macau (UM) today (22 March) kicked off the Career and Internship Fair 2018. This year’s fair attracted 110 companies, offering more than 4,000 job vacancies in over 20 industries.
