Macao’s Base Rate of the Discount Window Raised to 2.0%

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) raised the Base Rate of the Discount Window today (22 March 2018) by 25 basis points to 2.0%.


Horse racing concessionaire must within three years pay dues owed

The holder of Macao’s horse racing concession must pay to the Government – within a three-year period – the balance of certain previously-due fees; otherwise the concession would be terminated.

Supported by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and coordinated by Macau Travel Agency Association, the 6th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (referred to as the “Expo” or “MITE”) will be held at Hall D, Cotai Expo of the Venetian Macao from 27 to 29 April. Advanced to April this year, exhibitors can seize the timing of MITE to promote their tourism products for summer vacation before the peak season arrives. Up to date, a total of 290 enterprises and entities from 36 countries and regions have confirmed their participation in the 6th edition of the Expo. The event will present five key highlights to unleash Macao’s unique strengths and role as a platform, namely China-Portugal Tourism Networking, “Maritime Silk Road” Tourism & Culture Display, Greater Bay Area: Tourism Development and Opportunities Seminar, Macao “Tourism・Creative” Street as well as “Macao: City of Gastronomy” Feature Zone.



Applications for the 36th Macao Young Musicians Competition open in April

In order to promote the development of classical music in Macao, encourage young local musicians to explore their musical potential, and provide them valuable stage experience and learning opportunities, the Cultural Affairs Bureau organizes the 36th Macao Young Musicians Competition between 23 June and 15 July. Applications will be open from 4 to 15 April.


Consumer price index (CPI) for February 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in February 2018 rose by 3.12% year-on-year to 112.18, the largest year-on-year growth since March 2016, as the Lunar New Year fell in February this year but in January last year. The increment was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, higher charges for package tours during the Lunar New Year Period, rising rentals for dwellings, as well as increasing parking meter rates and prices of women’s clothing.
