“Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018” list unveiled in Macao next week

Top chefs and restaurateurs from across Asia will gather in Macao for the announcement of “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018” list and related events, running from March 25 to 27. Organized with the support of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the hosting of the world famous gourmet awards ceremony in the city is one of the highlight events of “2018 Macao Year of Gastronomy”, following Macao's designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.


Survey on information technology usage in the household sector for 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of households using the Internet in 2017 increased by 1,200 year-on-year to 168,800, accounting for 88.1% of the total households. Households using fibre optic broadband connection kept rising, up by 35.7% year-on-year to 105,700, which made up 62.6% of the total households using the Internet, and thus led to a decline of 30.8% in the number of households using fixed broadband connection (49,300).


CE to explore opportunities regarding Xiong'an New Area

The Government was looking forward to exploring opportunities with Hebei Province regarding development of the latter’s Xiong'an New Area economic zone, said today the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for January 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that as the Lunar New Year was in January last year, the proportions of interviewed restaurants & similar establishments and retailers showing a year-on-year growth in receipts in January 2018 decreased compared with December 2017. Among the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments, 31% registered a year-on-year rise in receipts in January 2018, down by 13 percentage points from December 2017. The corresponding proportion of Chinese Restaurants plunged by 50 percentage points to merely 9%. On the other hand, the share of interviewed establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts increased by 24 percentage points over December 2017 to 56%. The corresponding proportions of Chinese Restaurants (82%), Japanese & Korean Restaurants (56%) and Western Restaurants (63%) grew by 59, 19 and 16 percentage points respectively.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 19 March for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets in São Lázaro and São Lourenço Parishes.



Swiss Style Now to Kick off this Friday

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, the exhibition “Swiss Style Now”, will be inaugurated on Friday, 23 March, at 6:30pm, at the Tap Seac Gallery. All are welcome.



Optimization and Replacement of Non-residents’ Arrival Card

The Public Security Police Force has been working on the optimization and replacement of Arrival Card for non-residents. The replacement has been started and will be completed by 31 March 2018. During the replacement period, the old version and new version of Arrival Card will be in use. Starting from 1 April 2018, only the new version of the Arrival Card will be in use. The purpose for this optimization is to make the status of stay clear to the non-residents. No amendment is made to the current conditions or limitations of stay applicable to non-residents.
