Demographic statistics for the 4th quarter of 2017
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population at end-2017 increased by 8,200 year-on-year to 653,100, with the female population accounting for 53.0%. The elderly population (aged 65 and over) made up 10.5% of the total, up by 0.7 percentage points year-on-year; the proportion of adult population (aged 15-64) dropped by 1.0 percentage point to 76.7%. The ageing ratio rose by 4.1 percentage points year-on-year to 83.0%, indicating a continuous ageing of the population.

29th Macao Arts Festival Outreach Programme features more than 44 activities encouraging reflection on life
The 29th Macao Arts Festival (MAF) Outreach Programme, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, features 28 programmes which total 44 activities, including talks, workshops, artist talk, art critique, accessibility services and movie screenings, aiming at broadening the audiences’ thinking about life and enriching its cultural experience.

29th Macao Arts Festival is themed “Origin”
The 29th Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from 27 April to 31 May. This edition is themed “Origin”, which symbolises the “spring of life”, and explores a wide range of topics to broaden the audiences’ thinking about life as well as to lead the audience to recall the core meaning of life by means of different art manifestations.

UM’s vice rector attends AULP’s Board of Administrators meeting
Prof Rui Martins, vice rector of the University of Macau (UM), recently attended the Board of Administrators meeting of the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP), on behalf of UM. Held on 28 February in the AULP’s headquarters in Lisbon, the meeting attracted representatives from ten higher education institutions from Portuguese-speaking countries and Macao, which serve as the president of the AULP or members of the Board of Administrators, Board of Supervisors, and Secretariat General.

Italian Cellist Mario Brunello performs in Macao this Saturday
The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau and under the baton of its Music Director and Principal Conductor Lu Jia, joins hands with renowned Italian cellist Mario Brunello to present the concert “The Musical Footprint of Dvořák”, exclusively dedicated to Czech composer Dvořák, to be held on Saturday, 10 March, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network.
