MICE statistics for the 4th quarter of 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 378 MICE events were held in the fourth quarter of 2017, including 354 meetings & conferences, 18 exhibitions and 6 incentives. Total number of participants and attendees was 694,000.


Government approves extension of horse race concession

The Government has approved an extension of the city’s horse racing concession for a period of 24 years and six months, said today the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac.


Applications for the Cultural Affairs Bureau “Academic Research Grant” open in March

The applications for the “Academic Research Grant”, launched by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be open from 1 March to 31 May, 2018.



UM professor wins Journal Paper of the Year Award at ENTER 2018

Yeongbae Choe, an assistant professor of international integrated resort management from the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau (UM), recently received the Journal Paper of the Year Award and the Best Poster Award, for his papers titled ‘Use of Social Media across the Trip Experience: An Application of Latent Transition Analysis’ and ‘Representation of Food Safety in Online Reviews’, respectively, at the ENTER 2018 Conference of the International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism (IFITT). Dr Choe is the only person to have received two awards at this year’s conference.



Results of retail sales survey for 4th quarter of 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales for the fourth quarter of 2017 increased by 16.2% year-on-year to MOP19.08 billion and rose by 18.3% as compared with the revised figure (MOP16.12 billion) in the third quarter of 2017. Watches, Clocks & Jewellery accounted for 21.5% of the total value of retail sales, followed by Goods in Department Stores (15.0%), Adults’ Clothing (14.5%), Leather Goods (11.9%) and Goods in Supermarkets (5.7%).



GGCT lowers the Travel Alert for Bali to Level 1

Given that the situation caused by the eruption of the Agung volcano in Bali has alleviated, the Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) lowered the Travel Alert to Level 1.
