The Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area convenes Annual Meeting in Hong Kong Macao reports on work progress

The Tourism Federation of Cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area (referred to as the “Federation”) convened the second Annual Meeting in Hong Kong today (12 June) to forge the collaborative initiatives of the year. Member entities keenly expressed their views on the prospect of tourism development across the Greater Bay Area, followed by comprehensive discussions. Deputy Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Cheng Wai Tong, attended the meeting with the team.




UM confers honorary doctorate on Nobel laureate Aaron Ciechanover; Ciechanover gives talk on personalised medicine

The University of Macau (UM) today (12 June) conferred a Doctor of Science honoris causa degree on the Nobel laureate in chemistry, Prof Aaron Ciechanover, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to basic scientific research. After the ceremony, Prof Ciechanover gave a lecture titled ‘The Revolution of Personalised Medicine: Are We Going to Cure all Diseases and at What Cost’, which attracted many experts, scholars, faculty members, researchers, and students from China and abroad.


Over 400 medical experts discuss cutting-edge technologies at UM

The Sixth Macau Symposium on Biomedical Sciences, organised by the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), opened at UM today (12 June). The two-day event attracted over 400 people, including experts, scientists and researchers in the field as well as teachers and students from UM and local secondary schools. With this year’s theme being ‘innovation’, the symposium focused on cutting-edge research and innovative technologies in biomedical sciences. The Nobel laureate Aaron Ciechanover, who is also a recipient of an honorary doctorate from UM, was one of the keynote speakers.

A dispatch by the Secretary for Economy and Finance was published in Series II of the Official Gazette no. 24 on 12 June 2019, advising the revision of Section 1 Objective of the Regulations of Consumer Arbitration Centre that consumer dispute no greater than MOP100,000 value is accepted by the Arbitration Centre, this is a further step to safeguard consumer rights.


The European Union and Macao held their 23rd Joint Committee Meeting

The 23rd EU-Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Joint Committee meeting was held in Brussels on 11 June 2019, in accordance with Article 16 of the EC-Macao Trade and Cooperation Agreement of 15 December 1992. This was the seventeenth annual meeting since the handover in 1999.
