The Consumer Council handled 5,067 cases last year, of which 1,647 are complaints, 3,397 inquiries and 23 suggestions.

Consumer Council published the latest issue no. 292 Consumer Report, which features two reports on the test of microorganisms and calories of sushi, and a questionnaire on piano lessons fees and paying methods.


UNESCO Creative Cities to gather in Macao next week for International Gastronomy Forum

The Macao Government Tourism Office will organize the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao 2018” on January 17 to 19, bringing to town members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, officials and experts to connect with and share their successful experiences. The event is one of the first highlight initiatives carried out by Macao after the designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy late last year.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish

Consumer Council conducted its third ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 11 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in Toi San, Ilha Verde and Fai Chi Kei areas in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.


UM professor discovers historical material on early modern history of Sino-Western relations

Prof Antonio de Saldanha from the Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), University of Macau (UM), recently presented the latest finding of his research project developed at UM, a new historical document that is considered a major contribution to the study of the early modern history of Sino-Western relations. This document is a detailed manuscript on various topics about the Chinese society during the Ming dynasty, including social, legal, judiciary, political, and tributary systems, the geographical and administrative organisation, and the popular and elite cultures. It was authored by a Portuguese merchant, during the 13 years of his captivity in Guangzhou, subsequent to his capture in 1549 by the famous Ming General Zhu Wan, grand coordinator of Zhejiang and superintendent of military affairs for Zhejiang and Fujian Coastal Defense, during the piracy eradication naval campaigns at the Fujian-Guangdong border.


Macao Orchestra joins hands to be staged in Macao

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the concert “Piano Giant” on Saturday, 20 January, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Under the baton of Music Director Lu Jia, the Macao Orchestra will join hands with Stefan Vladar, a celebrated pianist specialized in the interpretation of Beethoven’s masterpieces, to present a piano concerto by Beethoven. In addition, the IC specially organizes the “Piano Master Class with Stefan Vladar” on Friday, 19 January, at the School of Music of the Macao Conservatory, where the master will coach and exchange views with the participants in person. Registration for observers in Master Class is open until 17 January. All music aficionados are welcome to participate.


Mortgage loans statistics – November 2017

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both rose from a month earlier in November 2017. With regard to the outstanding balance, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed monthly increases.
