33rd MIMF Outreach Programme invites famous artists to share the beauty of music

The 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will open in October hosting a series of world-class audiovisual events. Tickets for the 33rd MIMF are now available and an enthusiastic response from the public has been received. The public is advised to purchase their tickets as soon as possible as tickets for some of the programmes are limited. In addition, the Festival features a number of outreach activities, allowing the audience to experience the beauty of music in different disciplines beyond the stage. Interested parties are welcome to participate.


Consumer Council released 6th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of August on 21 August for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in São Lázaro, São Lourenço and Sé Parishes. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


Visitor Arrivals for July 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that an influx of visitors has been observed since the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge commenced operations. Visitor arrivals rose by 16.3% year-on-year to 3,530,233 in July 2019, with same-day visitors (1,815,749) surging by 29.9% and overnight visitors (1,714,484) growing by 4.7%. In view of an increase of 5.4 percentage points in the proportion of same-day visitors to 51.4%, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors and same-day visitors staying steady at 2.2 days and 0.2 day respectively.


Stunning collection of bird-and-flower paintings by Chen Zhifo exhibited in Macao

Jointly organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Nanjing Museum, the exhibition “Quietness and Clarity: Works of Chen Zhifo from the Collection of the Nanjing Museum”, will be held on Friday, 23 August, at 6:30pm, at the Special Exhibition Gallery on the fourth floor of MAM. The exhibition features a total of 166 works, including painting, sketches, fenben (preparatory drawings), inspirational materials and tools by Chen Zhifo, a contemporary master of gongbi (meticulous) bird-and-flower painter and art educator, demonstrating the evolution of Zhifo’s artistic works through multiple perspectives.


Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 2nd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors in the second quarter of 2019 dropped by 4.8% year-on-year to MOP15.71 billion. Total spending of overnight visitors decreased by 8.1% to MOP12.28 billion, whereas that of same-day visitors grew by 9.3% to MOP3.43 billion on account of an upsurge of 35.0% in number of same-day visitors. In the first half year of 2019, total spending of visitors edged down by 0.8% year-on-year to MOP32.64 billion, with that of overnight visitors falling by 3.2% to MOP25.20 billion while that of same-day visitors rising by 8.2% to MOP7.44 billion.


“Art Macao” presents shows and concerts in summer

The event “Art Macao” continues to offer the public multiple artistic experiences with a festive atmosphere throughout the city. In addition to organizing art exhibitions and outdoor large-scale installations in all different corners of Macao, this summer will bring even more brilliant concerts and performances, including the 2019-20 season opening concerts of the Macao Orchestra and the Macao Chinese Orchestra, as well as the Haojiang Moonlight Night – Dance Drama “Thangka”, showcasing different forms of art that should not be missed by art aficionados.


Consumer price index (CPI) for July 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI (116.05) for July 2019 increased by 2.60% year-on-year, a further slowdown of 0.02 percentage points from the growth in June (+2.62%). The increment in July was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings and higher prices of motor cars, gasoline and fresh pork.


Carrying forward the Tradition of Loving the Country and Macao MPI Held Opening Ceremony for the New Academic Year

Macao Polytechnic Institute held the opening ceremony for academic year 2019/2020 in MPI Multi-sport Pavilion on 20 August at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony carried forward the tradition of loving the country and Macao by hoisting the national flag and playing and singing the national anthem. This academic year, MPI inducted 1000 freshmen of Bachelor’s Degree programmes, Master’s Degree programmes and Ph.D. programmes, from Macao and other parts of the Greater Bay Area and from Portuguese-speaking countries; and more than 500 excellent students were awarded scholarships at the ceremony. Over 2000 participants, including community leaders, representatives of scholarship sponsors, representatives from universities at home and abroad, and MPI staff and students, attended the ceremony and stood as witnesses for the freshmen to be sworn into the MPI family with their oath of “MPI heart, our new start”, in a lively and touching atmosphere.

UM inaugurates alliance for technological innovation and talent development in western GBA, Tam Chon Weng: UM has a unique status and advantage in western GBA

An inauguration ceremony for the Alliance for Technological Innovation and Talent Development in Western Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the first Alliance Forum on Collaboration in Technology and Education were held today (19 August) at the University of Macau (UM). Over 70 members of senior management teams of universities and government representatives from western GBA attended the ceremony to witness the inauguration. In his speech, Tam Chon Weng, secretary for social affairs and culture of the Macao SAR, said that the SAR government places equal emphasis on ‘enhancing Macao’s own capacity’ and ‘strengthening regional collaboration’, adding that the establishment of the alliance is an important measure aimed to promote technological innovation and personnel training in western GBA.
