UM presents academic awards to outstanding graduates

The University of Macau (UM) today (24 May) presented academic prizes to 66 outstanding graduates at the Congregation 2019. In this academic year, the university gave out over MOP 4 million in more than 60 kinds of academic prizes and scholarships to over 400 students.


Children’s Theatre Discovering the Forbidden City at CCM

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents The Little Kid in the Forbidden City, a children’s theatre to be staged in two shows on June 5 and 6 (Wednesday and Thursday) at CCM’s Grand Auditorium.




Results of retail sales survey for 1st quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales for the first quarter of 2019 decreased by 1.9% year-on-year to MOP20.38 billion; yet, an increase of 2.6% was observed as compared with the revised figure (MOP19.87 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2018. In the first quarter, Watches, Clocks & Jewellery accounted for 20.9% of the total retail sales, followed by Goods in Department Stores (17.6%), Leather Goods (13.6%) and Adults' Clothing (12.4%).


Health statistics 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the 5 hospitals in Macao provided a total of 1,604 in-patient beds in 2018, up by 8 year-on-year. Number of in-patients increased by 2.2% year-on-year to 60,000, with the average hospital stay rising by 0.2 day to 7.2 days. The occupany rate of in-patient beds grew by 3.6 percentage points to 74.4%, owing to the increases in the number of in-patients and the average hospital stay.


Consumer Council released 6th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of May on 23 May for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 7 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.



Economist Lawrence Lau to give talk at UM next Thursday on Sino-US trade war

The University of Macau (UM) on 30 May (next Thursday) will hold a talk, titled ‘The China-US Trade War: Challenges and Opportunities for China, the Greater Bay Area and Macao’, as part of the University Lecture Series. Prof Lawrence J Lau, a renowned economist, will be the keynote speaker. All are welcome.


CCAC seeks to optimise legal regimes of corruption fighting and discipline of public servants

As a proactive response to the demands for optimising the integrity building in the Macao SAR and in order to step up the efforts in the fight against corruption and optimise the accountability system in the public service, following the suggestions raised by the expert team of the United Nations concerning the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption by the Macao SAR and drawing on its experiences in corruption-fighting and ombudsmanship over recent years and those of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, the CCAC has commenced a review of the relevant criminal regime and the discipline regime of public servants. The conclusions of the review and recommendations on the optimisation of the regimes will be revealed and rendered shortly.
