The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the ARTmusing Summer workshops, a series of activities conceived for all tastes and ages, from babies and children to parents and youth, without forgetting the seniors. The coming edition is hosted by experienced artists coming from Spain and Hong Kong who will be joined by Macao professionals. Challenging creative minds, the series stimulates participants’ interests in the performing arts throughout the holiday season.

Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao-China Pavilion will be inaugurated on 9 May (Thursday) at the 58^th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy. The exhibition of the Macao-China Pavilion entitled “Apparition” will showcase 10 pieces/sets of ceramic installations by Macao’s young artist, Heidi Lau, aiming to “apparate” the “invisible” Macao in response to the theme of this year’s La Biennale, “May you live in interesting times”. The works that constitute the Macao exhibition have been sent to Venice and the curator Lam Sio Man, artist Heidi Lau and the exhibition team of the MAM have also arrived to set up the exhibition, hoping to leave the audience with the best impression.

The Macao Public Library, under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, launches the 18^th issue of Books and the City, which is already available to the public. As a special issue about ‘books on beverages’, this edition features an interview with two professional publishers of books about the alcohol industry, who introduce several quality books and magazines on beverages to guide readers through an intoxicating reading experience.

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in March with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans increased from a month earlier.

With the 1^st May Labor Day holiday extended to span four days (1^st – 4^th May) in Mainland China, more Mainland residents were enticed to travel during the mentioned period, which, in addition to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge now in operation, led to a considerable year-on-year increase in total visitor arrivals to Macao. Provisional statistics revealed that Macao welcomed 636,644 visitors in total throughout the four-day holiday. The volume of visitors during the first three days of the Labor Day holiday increased year-on-year by 37.0%, compared with the three-day Labor Day holiday (29^th April to 1^st May) of 2018. During the Labor Day holiday, MGTO carried out more rigorous inspections against irregularities. During inspections, no sign of irregularities involving unlicensed tour guide was discovered. It was however discovered that there were a few locally-licensed tour guides leading tour groups without wearing their tour guide licenses. Highly concerned about the city’s tourism carrying capacity during festivals and holidays, MGTO actively carries out a diversity of measures to optimize the tourism environment.

The 30^th Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was inaugurated on Friday, 3 May, at 7:40pm, at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Xue Xiaofeng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the Member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau, Van Mei Lin; the Deputy General Manager of Bank of China (Macau Branch), Geng Wei; the Director and Member of Executive Committee of Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., Lorman, Lo Song Man; the Vice President of Arts & Culture of MGM, Cristina Kuok; and the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man. A junior lion dance performance by MGM was also held. In order to celebrate the 30^th anniversary of the Macao Arts Festival, the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau set up a booth in the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre to sell philatelic products.
