Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is promoting Macao as a travel destination at ITB Berlin, running from 6 to 10 March at the German capital, to attract more international visitors from long-haul markets. MGTO also joins the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) to run a collaborative booth at ITB, tapping into the potential unlocked by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development by showcasing pertinent tourism resources abroad.

The University of Macau (UM) will launch a Master of Science in Data Science programme in the 2019/2020 academic year to nurture a new type of professionals in big data. The new programme covers various areas, including artificial intelligence, marketing, financial technology, precision medicine, and intelligent education, with the aim of promoting the use of big data in different disciplines and the integration of data science and big data applications. This is the first interdisciplinary programme in big data ever launched in Macao. The programme is now open for applications until 15 April.

In order to review the notification mechanism for class suspension due to inclement weather; to enhance the effectiveness of interdepartmental collaboration; to achieve sound execution of class-suspension notification; to allow residents, schools, parents and students to get the class-suspension information promptly; the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) will conduct an interdepartmental drill on class-suspension notification due to issuance of rainstorm warning signal on 10^th March (Sunday). The participating departments include: the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), Fire Services Bureau, Public Security Police Force, Transport Bureau, Department of Chinese News of TDM - Teledifusão de Macau, Radio Macau, Macau Lotus TV, Macau Asia Satellite TV, Macau Cable TV and Macao Daily News, etc.

Consumer Council conducted its first ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 6 March for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Areia Preta, Mong Há and Avenida de Venceslau de Morais in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will organize an “Experience Macao – Portugal” mega promotion next week during Lisbon Travel Market 2019, in which Macao will be in the spotlight as this year’s International Guest Destination. Capitalizing on BTL exposure, a string of activities will be conducted in Lisbon and Porto to give an update about Macao as a tourism destination leveraging on this special year that the city is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR).

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population at end-2018 increased by 14,300 year-on-year to 667,400, with the female population accounting for 53.1% of the total. The proportion of elderly population (aged 65 and over) grew by 0.6 percentage points year-on-year to 11.1%, whereas that of adult population (aged 15-64) dropped by 1.0 percentage point to 75.7%. The population of Macao continued to age, with the ageing ratio rising by 1.1 percentage points year-on-year to 84.1%, representing the 22^nd consecutive year of increase.
