UM ranked among the top globally in TCM and natural medicine research

The Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) and State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine at the University of Macau (UM) have once again been recognised by international authoritative institutes. Dr Xiao Jianbo, an assistant professor from the ICMS, has made the list of Highly Cited Researchers (HCRs) published by Clarivate Analytics for two consecutive years. Dr Xiao is the only scholar from Macao in the field of biomedical sciences to have been included on the list of 2016 and 2017 Clarivate Analytics HCRs. In addition, UM has been included in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database for ranking among the top 1 per cent in terms of the citation frequency of published papers in the field of pharmacology and toxicology, which shows international recognition of UM’s research capacity in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and natural medicine.

UM Honorary Doctor Henry T. Yang gives Doctor honoris causa Lecture on how top universities nurture professionals

The University of Macau (UM) yesterday (12 November) held a Doctor honoris causa Lecture titled ‘Cultivating Talent at a World-Class Research University UC Santa Barbara: A Modest Example’. The keynote speaker, Professor Henry T. Yang, is a recipient of an honorary doctorate from UM, a world-renowned expert in structural engineering, and the current chancellor of the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). During the talk, Yang discussed how world-class higher education institutions and research institutes discover talented people and nurture outstanding professionals. The event attracted many UM faculty members and students.

Preparations underway to welcome Portuguese travel trade for National Congress of APAVT next week in Macao

Macao Government Tourism Office and the Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT, from its Portuguese acronym) are finalizing the preparations for the 43rd National Congress of APAVT, scheduled for November 23 to 27 in Macao. The congress will offer Portuguese tourism professionals a firsthand update on the city’s tourism offer, contributing to stimulate the diversification of visitor-source markets. The event will also reinforce Macao’s role as a platform for relations between China and Portuguese speaking countries, with one of the highlights of the programme including a session for business contacts between Portuguese travel trade and counterparts from Mainland China.


FSS Continues to Hold More Explanatory Sessions to Introduce the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System

The “Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System (the System)” will come into force on 1 January next year. In order to deepen the understanding of the community about the System, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) has held several sessions to explain the non-mandatory central provident fund system to employees of different industries and also two public sessions for employers. Later, there will be two public sessions for employees on 11 and 26 November, and interested individuals can sign up for participation.
