Book collection for the “Book Exchange” activity starts on 1 March

As part of the “2019 Macao Library Week”, the Department of Public Library Management of the Cultural Affairs Bureau will launch the “Book Exchange” activity from Friday, 1 March, in order to promote reading habits as well as to encourage residents who love reading to make friends through books and share their resources. The book collection period will start from 1 March to 7 April, from 2pm to 8pm on Monday, and from 8:30am to 8pm from Tuesday to Sunday, excluding public holidays.


Employment survey for November 2018 – January 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for November 2018-January 2019 was 1.7%, the unemployment rate of local residents stood at 2.4%, and the underemployment rate was 0.4%. All three indicators remained stable from the previous period (October-December 2018).

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election has today published the calendar for processes regarding formation of the Chief Executive Election Committee.


Security authorities vigilant in maintaining Macao community safety

The full-year 2018 enforcement statistics from the police showed Macao to be a secure and safe city. Instances of the most serious forms of crime – kidnap, murder and grievous assault – continued to be either non-existent, or extremely rare.



Consumer price index (CPI) for January 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in January 2019 increased by 3.04% year-on-year to 114.53, an increase of 0.10 percentage point from the 2.94% growth in December 2018. The increment in January was attributable to dearer charges for eating out and higher rentals for dwellings, as well as increasing prices of motor cars and adults’ clothing.


Visitor arrivals for January 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 3,425,126 in January 2019, up by 24.9% year-on-year but down by 4.1% over December 2018. Same-day visitors (1,783,758) surged by 41.8% year-on-year, with those arriving by land soaring by 65.8%; overnight visitors (1,641,368) increased by 10.7%. The average length of stay of visitors dropped by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.2 days on account of a notable growth of 6.2 percentage points in the proportion of same-day visitors (52.1%). Overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.2 days, up by 0.1 day; meanwhile, the average length of stay of same-day visitors held stable at 0.2 day.

Anthony Lau Siu Wing, an honorary doctor of the University of Macau (UM), on Tuesday 5 March will give a talk titled ‘E-Commerce Logistics’ at UM. All are welcome.



Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Various functions available on website and app

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 25 February for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in Sé Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.
