Macao designated as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy

The UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, announced on the early morning of November 1, Macao time, the designation of “Macao, China” as a new member city of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Gastronomy. Macao now boosts of yet another world renown status as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, which is set to bring an array of new opportunities to promote Macao’s unique gastronomic culture and develop a sustainable tourism industry, as the city works to transform itself into a world centre of tourism and leisure.


Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets on 31 October for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 25 October to 31 October are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


New Measures for Vietnamese to Apply for “Non-resident Worker’s Authorization to Stay”

In response to the practical situation of Macao’s public security, immigration control and foreign labour market, and to further improve the management of migrant workers, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government will implement new management policy on 1 February 2018: Vietnamese citizens who apply for “Non-resident Worker’s Authorization to Stay” for the first time or re-apply after a certain period of time are required to submit a Certificate of Criminal Record issued by their country of nationality. Vietnamese citizens who renew their Authorization or re-apply for the same Authorization within six months from the date of cancellation of the “Non-resident Worker’s Authorization to Stay” are not required to submit the Certificate.


Macao Orchestra presents the concert “The Mysterious Edward Elgar” conducted by remarkable local conductor Lio Kuokman at St. Dominic’s Church on Friday

The Macao Orchestra, (OM from Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the concert “The Mysterious Edward Elgar” on Friday, 3 November, at 8pm, at the St. Dominic’s Church. Young local conductor Lio Kuokman, an emerging talent in the international music circles in recent years, was invited to interpret a number of outstanding musical pieces by British composer Edward Elgar. Admission is free. All are welcome.


Visitors to Macao must declare cash amounts of 120,000 patacas or above

Starting from tomorrow, visitors entering the Special Administrative Region (SAR) and carrying 120,000 patacas or more (or the equivalent in other currencies) are obliged to report the fact to the Macao authorities.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for September 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours rose by 25.6% year-on-year to 760,000 in September 2017, with a month-to-month increase of 8.9%. Package tour visitors from Mainland China (635,000), the Republic of Korea (34,000) and Taiwan (37,000) went up by 32.4%, 10.8% and 2.4% respectively year-on-year, while those from Japan (13,000) and Hong Kong (11,000) dropped by 7.1% and 21.1% respectively. In the first three quarters of 2017, visitors on package tours totalled 6,012,000, up by 11.0% year-on-year.


Successful Inscription of the “Chapas Sínicas” on Memory of the World Register

As announced by the UNESCO on 30 October 2017, the collection of “Chapas Sínicas” (Official Records of Macao During the Qing Dynasty (1693-1886)), jointly nominated by the Archives of Macao under the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the National Archive of Torre do Tombo of Portugal, has been successfully inscribed on the internationally recognised Memory of the World Register.


Founder and 6 stately chefs of Le Club des Chefs des Chefs Association share culinary insights with IFT students

Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) had the honour to collaborate with Galaxy Entertainment Group to organise a culinary experience sharing event with Le Club des Chefs des Chefs Association for IFT Culinary Arts Management bachelor degree programme students on 30 October 2017. The founder and 6 prestigious chefs from the Association shared their meaningful and knowledgeable culinary insights and experience with the students.


Macao, Hong Kong sign cooperation arrangement to foster closer links

Macao and Hong Kong today signed a Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) to advance liberalisation of trade and so create further favourable conditions for regional integration.
