Macao Makes International Motorsport History – City hosts two FIA World Cups plus FIA World Touring Car Championship Round

The Suncity Group 64th Macau Grand Prix will be held from November 16-19, when it will become the only international motorsport event in the world to host two official FIA World Cups plus a round of an FIA World Championship. The Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee (MGPOC) held a press conference today (October 24th) at the Macao Science Center to announce information about the event, including the six-race line-up and promotional activities.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 24 October for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets at Lam Mau, Patane and San Kio areas in Santo António Parish.


Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets on 24 October for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 18 October to 24 October are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


UM-hosted Bank of China Trophy One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition now open for applications

The Bank of China Trophy One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition, hosted by the University of Macau (UM), is now open for applications. All students currently studying at tertiary institutions in Macao and Macao residents studying at overseas tertiary institutions are eligible to participate. The cash prize for the Macao regional competition is MOP 100,000. The top three winners of the regional competition will advance to the grand final to compete for a cash prize of RMB 1 million and an opportunity to win funding in excess of RMB 50 million.


‘2017 Macao International Parade’ – Call for submission of proposals of local arts groups

The ‘Parade through Macao, Latin City’, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), was officially renamed as ‘Macao International Parade’ starting from this edition, providing local arts groups a performance platform to express their creativity while encouraging participants to showcase their creative talent so as to increase competitiveness. It aims to promote the diversified development of Macao’s cultural industries and create opportunities for local artists to observe and conduct exchange activities with international performing groups. In order to celebrate the 18th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China, this year the ‘Macao International Parade’ will be held on Sunday, 17 December. IC invites all local associations registered in the Identification Service Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region, schools, institutes and organizations to submit performance proposals .

IFT signs cooperation agreement with Universidade de Évora, Portugal

On 23 October, Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) and Universidade de Évora, Portugal mutually entered into a formal cooperation agreement. Under the witness of Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR Government, President of IFT, Dr. Fanny Vong, and Prof. Ana Costa Freitas, Rector of Universidade de Évora, Portugal signed the agreement at IFT.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 23 October for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 12 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane area.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for August 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, after the catastrophic typhoon on 23 August, the proportion of interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reporting a year-on-year growth in receipts in August 2017 decreased by 8 percentage points from July to 32%, the lowest value recorded since November 2016. The corresponding proportions of Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (18%) and Other Restaurants & Similar Establishments (32%) went down by 20 and 16 percentage points respectively, while the share of Japanese & Korean Restaurants (44%) increased by 19 percentage points. On the other hand, 46% of the establishments recorded a year-on-year decline in receipts, up by 11 percentage points from July. The corresponding proportions of Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (53%) and Other Restaurants & Similar Establishments (50%) rose by 16 and 22 percentage points respectively.


Funds to be Transferred Tomorrow to Bank Accounts of Provident Fund Individual Account Owners Aged 75 or Older

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) has received more than 50,000 applications for withdrawal of funds from provident fund individual accounts as of October 20, told by the FSS. Of which 21,474 applications submitted by three categories of people (elders aged 75 or older, individuals receiving disability pension from the FSS for more than one year, and those currently receiving special disability subsidy from the Social Welfare Bureau (SWB)) have been approved. The funds will be transferred to their bank accounts tomorrow (October 24) and the FSS has already begun to notify the individuals concerned of the outcome of their applications by mail or via mobile text message (SMS).
