Exploring co-operation opportunities between three regions while enhancing the construction of Macao as a platform between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries Angola, Guangdong and Macao Trade and Investment Forum will be held on 19 October

“Angola, Guangdong and Macao Trade and Investment Forum” will be held on 19 October (Thursday) at 3pm in the Sicily Room, the Venetian Macao. As one of the key activities of the 22nd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (22nd MIF), the Forum will invite entrepreneurs and government officials from the three regions to present their latest economic development and investment environments, while sharing their practical business experience. Through this Forum, participants will have a better understanding of the development of the three regions the advantages and functions of Macao’s role as a “Business and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries”, and explore new business opportunities together. There will be simultaneous translations in Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese and English, all merchants are welcome to register.

UM students receive full funding from Drug Information Association annual meeting 11 years in a row

Li Meng, a master’s student of medicinal administration from the University of Macau (UM) Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), has received full funding to present his paper, titled ‘Development Challenges for Maternal and Child Health Care Institutions in China: A Qualitative Study in Chengdu, Southwest of China’, at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Drug Information Association (DIA) in the United States. This is the 11th consecutive year that a student from the ICMS has received full funding from the DIA’s annual meeting.


31st Macao International Music Festival’s Concert The Erhu Family brings the charm of erhu music

The 31st Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the concert The Erhu Family on Sunday, 15 October, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium, offering the audience extraordinary erhu performances. Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council on 10 October collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 4 October t to 10 October are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


Restaurants and similar establishments survey 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 2,265 restaurants, eating & drinking places and cooked-food stalls in municipal markets were operating in 2016, down by 19 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged increased by 85 to 32,398. Receipts of the industry amounted to MOP 10.69 billion, up by 6.5% year-on-year; expenditure grew by 5.2% to MOP 10.46 billion. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy went up by 13.0% year-on-year to MOP 4.03 billion, while Gross Fixed Capital Formation decreased by 45.3% to MOP 330 million.


Visitor arrivals hit 920,631 during 1st October Golden Week

More Mainland residents opted for travel during the 1st October Golden Week this year, with both the National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival falling on this eight-day holiday (1st – 8th October). Attributed to this factor, total visitor arrivals to Macao registered an increase in comparison with the corresponding period of last year. Macao welcomed a total of 920,631visitors during the eight-day 1st October Golden Week. Total visitor arrivals from 1st to 7th October registered a year-on-year rise of 11.6%.


Driving the “1 + 1> 2" Business Environment Various sectors benefit from the excellent results generated by the convention and exhibition industry

Subsequent to the development of the convention and exhibition industry, driven continuously by the Macao SAR Government, a growing number of conventions and exhibitions have chosen Macao as the venue for their events. According to statistics, three hundred and thirty-three conventions and exhibitions events were held in the second quarter of 2017, of which, three hundred and eight were conventions, representing an increase of 16 events compared to the same period in the previous year. By way of example, the largest convention held in last September was attended by approximately 14,000 delegates. In the upcoming fourth quarter of this year, between October and December, several large convention and exhibition events will take place in Macao. In addition to promoting the development of the inherent industry chains, by attracting a large number of high-end professional visitors, such events also help to promote the economy of the community neighbourhoods and generate business opportunities for various sectors, including accommodation, transportation, tourism, catering and retail.


UM-developed method to determine specificity of polysaccharides applied in evaluation of US dietary supplements

A team from the University of Macau (UM) State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (SKL-QRCM) recently achieved a breakthrough by creating a qualitative and quantitative method to determine the specificity of polysaccharides. This method can be used to evaluate the health benefits of traditional Chinese medicinal soup. It has received multiple invention patents in China and has been applied for the first time in the evaluation of dietary supplements made with lingzhi mushroom in the United States. The method will provide a new perspective for consumers to evaluate the quality of dietary supplements currently available on the US market.


FSS Promotion Day to Hold on Saturday at Jardim do Mercado Municipal de Iao Hon

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) Promotion Day, organized by the FSS, will be held on this Saturday (14 October) from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m at Jardim do Mercado Municipal de Iao Hon. The main theme of this year’s event is “Participate in Central Provident Fund System for Greater Peace of Mind in Your Retirement”. The event will introduce the contents of non-mandatory central provident fund system to the residents through exhibition panels, booth games and drama, etc. The activities there include a retirement assessment station, fun zone for kids’ coloring, 3D photo taking, and onstage performances. All the young and old members of the family are welcome to come over and learn more about their own retirement protection.
