Alert to Risks of Virtual Commodities and Tokens

In June 2014, this Authority issued a press release to call the attention of the financial industry and the public that Bitcoin is a type of virtual commodity which is neither a legal tender nor a financial instrument subject to supervision. Any trading of these commodities involves considerable risks, including but not limited to those relating to money laundering and terrorism financing, against which all participants should remain vigilant.


Macao Yearbook 2017 to be released on 28 September

The Chinese, Portuguese and English editions of Macao Yearbook 2017, an annual publication compiled by the Government Information Bureau (GCS) of the Macao SAR, were released on 28 September 2017.


Applications for the Macao Museum of Art Autumn Courses are open

The Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, accepts applications for its Autumn Art Courses online and on-site from 23 September to 3 October. The admission list will be announced on 6 October. A total of 21 courses and workshops will be held by means of a step-by-step approach, covering different aspects from the use of media to topic-based artwork creation, allowing the participants to easily find their way into the realm of art creation and explore the world of art.


CCAC detects offences allegedly committed by inspectors of IACM’s sewerage and urban roads department

The CCAC received reports claiming that some inspectors of the Department of Sewerage and Urban Roads of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) deliberately made things difficult for works companies with underground piping projects in hand and solicited advantages from them. After investigation the CCAC found that a serving inspector and a former inspector of the said department allegedly committed such offences as abuse of office, document forgery, high-value fraud, abuse of trust, money laundering and making a false declaration of assets with intent. The cases have been referred to the Public Prosecutions Office recently.


Employment survey for June-August 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for June-August 2017 held stable as in the previous period (May-July 2017), at 2.0%; the unemployment rate of local residents was 2.7%, down by 0.1 percentage point. Meanwhile, the underemployment rate was 0.5%, up by 0.1 percentage point.


UM signs agreement with University of Porto on student exchange

The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities on 22 September signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Porto (UP) Faculty of Arts on the exchange of undergraduate students.


Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council on 26 September collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 20 September t to 26 September are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


Consumer Council released its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included 13 supermarkets in Santo António Parish

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in September on 26 September for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets at Lam Mau, Patane and San Kio areas in Santo António Parish.


Patane Library reopens to the public on Wednesday (27 September)

Due to the impact of typhoon “Hato” last month, the facilities, electrical system and air conditioning equipment of the Patane Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau were severely damaged. The repair, maintenance and inspection works are now concluded and therefore the Library will reopen to the public on Wednesday, 27 September.


MGTO prepares for 1st October Golden Week in diverse aspects

Including eight days (1st – 8th October) in total, the 1st October Golden Week will arrive on 1st October the National Day, covering the Mid-Autumn Festival as well this year. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has taken an array of measures in vigorous preparation for the arrival of the peak period, such as sending reminders to tourism industry operators and visitors by letter and mobile text message respectively, interdepartmental sharing of information, scrupulous inspections, food guide publication, as well as delegating manpower at tourist spots to provide visitor enquiry service and so forth. Through the diverse measures above, MGTO has made unreserved efforts to cater for the needs of residents and visitors as well as to optimize the tourism environment and service quality in Macao.
