New equipment to help strengthen Macao’s capabilities to respond to civil emergencies

Macao’s public departments have been diligently implementing the measures included in the Government’s plans regarding disaster prevention and mitigation.


Activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of Sir Robert Ho Tung Library to be held next month

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and to commemorate the generosity of Sir Robert Ho Tung in donating the building to the Macao Government for the establishment of a public library, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will hold a plaque inauguration ceremony on 4 August (Saturday), at 3pm, at the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, followed by a series of activities held during the same month, including a talk by architect Carlos Marreiros which aims to introduce the architectural style and restoration history of the building; and a sketching tour of the adjacent buildings to Sir Robert Ho Tung Library by architect Andre Lui Chak Keong. Admission to the activities is free.


UM PhD student wins Best Student Paper Award at International Conference on Data Mining and Big Data

Zhao Yinping, a PhD student from the Department of Computer and Information Science, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), received the Best Student Paper Award at the International Conference on Data Mining and Big Data (DMBD) 2018.



Promoting the construction and research achievements application of the “One belt and one road” Initiative The 2nd World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition awards ceremony successfully held at MPI

To enhance the exchange of Chinese-Portuguese translation techniques between students of higher education institutions around the world, to train Chinese-Portuguese translation professionals, and to further promote the application of advances in Chinese-Portuguese translation teaching and research in Macao, the Chinese Mainland and the Lusophone countries according to the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, the awards ceremony of the “2nd World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition” was successfully held at Macao Polytechnic Institute. The competition attracted 117 teams from 34 higher education institutions from around the world to participate. The Communication University of China won the first prize overall and Macao Polytechnic Institute won the first prize under the category of special awards for teams from higher education institutions in Macao. Professor Huang Youyi, Executive Vice President of the Translators Association of China appreciated that this competition is the only one of its kind in the entire world. It provides guidance and encouragement for Chinese-Portuguese translators. Since the exchanges between China and Portuguese speaking countries are increasingly frequent, Chinese-Portuguese translation is becoming all the more demanding than at any time in history. This gives the competition far reaching significance.




MPI Teacher and Students Study Medical Rescue Service and Rehabilitation Therapy in Sichuan

For the purpose of facilitating the academic exchange between mainland China and Macao, and learning the implementation progress of rehabilitation therapy after the WenChuan earthquake, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) co-organised an exchange programme with Sichuan University (SCU) - The Hong Kong Polytechnic University: Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction, to enhance students’ knowledge and techniques of medical rescue service. An MPI teacher and students of the Nursing and Speech-Language Therapy Programmes of the School of Health Sciences participated in this exchange programme. Inspired by such an exchange programme, MPI students are resolved to become outstanding medical professionals and thus contribute to the Macao Society.
