Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in September on 19 September for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets in São Lázaro and São Lourenço Parishes.


Results of industrial survey 2016

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released the results of Industrial Survey for 2016. Total Receipts of the industrial establishments in Macao dropped slightly by 0.9% year-on-year to MOP10.41 billion in 2016, and Intermediate Consumption decreased by 7.4% to MOP5.53 billion. As the decline in consumption outpaced the drop in receipts, Gross Surplus of the industrial sector (MOP2.82 billion) grew by 8.9% year-on-year. Gross Value Added that measures the sectorial contribution to the economy (MOP4.88 billion) also registered an increase of 7.6%. A total of 883 establishments were operating in industrial production, a year-on-year decrease of 17; total number of persons engaged went up by 1.2% to 12,062.

The General Audit Committee of the Legislative Assembly Election announced today the confirmed results of the direct election for the sixth Legislative Assembly.


Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council on 19 September collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 13 September t to 19 September are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


The Secretary for Economy and Finance announced the appointment of members to the General Committee of Consumer Council

The new session of the General Committee of Consumer Council held its first meeting on 18th September. Ho Pui Fan was elected President, and key issues were discussed at the meeting.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for July 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, according to the information obtained from the interviewed establishments before the catastrophic typhoon on 23 August, 40% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reported a year-on-year growth in receipts in July 2017, down by 5 percentage points from June. The corresponding proportions of Western Restaurants (20%) and Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (39%) went down by 25 and 9 percentage points respectively, while the share of Chinese Restaurants (51%) increased by 7 percentage points. On the other hand, 35% of the establishments recorded a year-on-year decline in receipts, up by 2 percentage points from June. The corresponding proportions of Western Restaurants (65%) and Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (37%) rose by 25 and 12 percentage points respectively, whereas the share of Chinese Restaurants (23%) dropped by 16 percentage points.
