CE to visit Guangzhou for talks on advancing flood prevention efforts

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, is to visit Guangzhou on Monday (11 September) to discuss in detail with leaders of Guangdong Province plans for a cross-boundary flood prevention system, in order to speed resolution of Macao’s flooding issues.


Results of gaming sector Survey 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated a year-on-year improvement in business performance of the gaming sector in 2016, with the gross value added recording a positive growth. Total receipts of the 10 enterprises that engaged in gaming activities amounted to MOP 229.00 billion in 2016, down by 1.8% year-on-year. The year-on-year decrease in gaming receipts (MOP 227.38 billion) narrowed notably from 34.3% in 2015 to 1.8% in 2016, receipts from food & beverage (MOP 506 million) dropped by 7.6% whereas those from currency exchange (MOP 82 million) rose by 8.6%; meanwhile, interest receipts (MOP 165 million) registered a decrease of 40.7%.

Consumer Council finished around 1,500 times of patrolling after Aug 23 “WhatsApp Hotline” still open to citizens

After typhoon Hato rampaged through Macao, the Consumer Council carried out measures, including increased patrols to traders and the setup of a “WhatsApp Hotline” 62980886 for consumers to report any market irregularities, to help stabilize the prices in the market and to safeguard consumer rights. The Council finished 1,491 times of patrolling and received 80 cases reported by citizens in the recent half-month. Traders affected by typhoon Hato has resumed their businesses and supply of goods has become stable.


MGTO promotes Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao tourism cooperation at China (Guangdong) International Tourism Industry Expo

The China (Guangdong) International Tourism Industry Expo (CITIE) 2017 is currently held in the China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex at Guangzhou from today (8 September) until 10 September. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) seizes the opportunity to showcase the destination together with tourism trade delegates from Macao at the Expo, while joining the tourism authorities of Guangdong and Hong Kong to promote their multi-destination tour routes and expand the diversity of source markets through the event.


World-renowned oncology experts visit UM to seek collaboration

Three world-renowned oncology experts recently visited the University of Macau (UM) and were warmly received by Lam Kam Seng, chair of the UM University Council; and Patrick Huen Wing Ming, director of the Dr Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation and a member of the UM University Council. During the visit, both parties exchanged ideas on biomedical research achievements obtained in recent years and discussed opportunities for collaboration in the field of teaching and research.

Test report on ice cream and frozen desserts published in Consumer Report

The Consumer Council and Food Safety Centre under the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau co-tested ice cream and frozen dessert products, all 30 samples passed the test of microorganisms. Ice creams and frozen desserts are high-calorie and high sugar foods, consumers are suggested to consumer in moderation.


The latest information of tropical cyclone Tropical Depression "Guchol" (1717) Update at 2017/09/07 11:05

"Guchol" has weakened into a tropical depression. Since it is expected to move in the northerly direction, far away from Macao, and to weaken continuously, it will not pose a threat to Macao.


Government to form new bureau for management of emergencies

The Government is to set up a new bureau to handle matters relating to the alleviation of the effects of natural disasters and accidents and to handle the aftermath of any such emergencies.
