Health Bureau clarifies the public were not appealed to wear mask when outdoor

On 24th August, rumours have surfaced from the social media saying that “Health personnel reminds everyone to wear mask when going out from tomorrow. Bacteria are emerging; they develop from decomposing animal carcasses and rotten food…”. In response to these rumours, the Health Bureau clarifies that it did not made such or similar appeal to the public, and it expects everyone to stop disseminating misleading information to the public.


MGTO and hotel industry discuss subsequent arrangements for tour group suspension

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) called for an urgent meeting with representatives of the hotel industry this afternoon (25 August) to inform local hotels about the official request made to local travel agencies for suspension of tour group arrangements. Representatives of the hotel industry expressed their support to the decision, agreeing that it is the Government’s top priority to handle the restoration work for the city after the catastrophe.


Updated number of request for assistance received from tourist

As of 12:00 noon today (August 25th), in the aftermath of typhoon "Hato", the Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) received a total of 12 requests for assistance from Macao residents due to the cancellation of their return flights. The current status is as follows:

The lecture “Moving Pictures: Ancient China's Gift to World Art”, integrated in the “Lecture by Masters of Culture” series, held by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, originally scheduled at 3pm on 27 August (Sunday), will be cancelled due to the temporary closing of the venue due to typhoon Hato.

MGTO requests suspension of tour group arrangements to facilitate resource allocation for city recovery from typhoon

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) conducted an urgent meeting with representatives of travel agency associations this morning and requested local travel agencies to suspend their arrangements of tour groups to Macao starting from today (25 August) until 30 August. MGTO will conduct further evaluation of the situation again next week to make any latest arrangement. The request was made with the hope to cut down on tour group arrangements to Macao so that more resources can be allocated for the top priority mission of restoring the city from the catastrophe.


Release of Macao SAR Balance of Payments Preliminary Estimate for 2016

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) releases today the preliminary balance of payments (BOP) statistics of Macao SAR for the reference year 2016. The BOP, which comprises the current account, the capital account and the financial account, is a statistical statement that summarises external transactions of an economy with the rest of the world.


Government, PLA and Macao public join hands in typhoon relief efforts

The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the People's Liberation Army Macao Garrison are to coordinate expansion of relief efforts across the city, in order to speed the restoration of Macao’s normal community life in the aftermath of Typhoon Hato.


Gross domestic product for the 2nd quarter of 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Macao in the second quarter of 2017 expanded by 11.5% year-on-year in real terms, higher than the 10.3% rise in the first quarter. The economic growth was attributable to the increases in exports of services and private consumption. External demand continued to expand, driving exports of services up by 18.8% year-on-year, in which exports of gaming services and other tourism services grew by 19.0% and 22.1% respectively; exports of goods edged up by 0.5%. Domestic demand rose steadily, as private consumption and imports of goods increased by 3.4% and 2.4% respectively year-on-year, but both government final consumption expenditure and investment decreased by 2.4%. Meanwhile, the implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, went up by 2.2% year-on-year.


Flags at half-mast to mourn typhoon victims

Regional flags of the Macao Special Administrative Region displayed at all agencies of the Government, border-crossing checkpoints, ferry terminals and airport, as well as representative offices stationed outside Macao were flown at half-mast today to mourn the victims of Typhoon Hato.
