Results of retail sales survey for 2nd quarter of 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales for the second quarter of 2017 increased by 10.1% year-on-year to MOP14.48 billion, but decreased by 12.2% as compared with the revised figure (MOP16.50 billion) in the first quarter of 2017. Watches, Clocks & Jewellery accounted for 22.0% of the total retail sales, followed by Goods in Department Stores (14.8%), Adults’ Clothing (12.1%), Leather Goods (12.0%) and Goods in Supermarkets (7.3%).

GGCT received inquiries and assistance requests from tourists affected by the typhoon

As of 12:00 noon today (August 24th), in the aftermath of typhoon "Hato", the Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) received two requests for assistance from Macao residents in Bangkok due to the cancellation of their return flights, involving more than 40 Macao residents. GGCT is in close contact with Air Macau and has urged the carrier to arrange flights to bring back the stranded passengers as soon as possible.

The Government has been paying close attention to the impact of Typhoon Hato, with all departments playing their respective required roles to respond to the effects of the typhoon.


Update from the Civil Protection Action Centre

As of 11am of 24 August, the Civil Protection Action Centre had recorded a total of 405 incidents across Macao and the Islands (Taipa and Coloane) as a result of Typhoon Hato. The incidents included:


Visitor arrivals for July 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that as the summer holiday approached, visitor arrivals increased by 22.7% month-to-month to 2,917,953 in July 2017 and went up by 4.4% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (1,609,426) rose by 10.6% year-on-year while same-day visitors (1,308,527) dropped by 2.3%. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.2 days, the same as in July 2016, with overnight visitors and same-day visitors staying an average of 2.1 days and 0.2 day respectively.
