Gross domestic product for the 3rd quarter of 2018
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2018 expanded by 1.6% year-on-year in real terms. The economy grew at a slower pace, mainly due to a continuous decline in construction investment and a notable slowdown in growth of exports of services. External demand growth eased; exports of services rose by 6.3% year-on-year, in which exports of gaming services and other tourism services went up by 5.8% and 11.4% respectively; meanwhile, exports of goods dropped by 8.8%. Domestic demand weakened, with investment declining substantially by 20.1% year-on-year in the third quarter; private consumption expenditure, government final consumption expenditure and imports of goods increased by 4.1%, 5.4% and 2.9% respectively. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, went up by 3.8% year-on-year.

The 10th Higher Education International Conference on Innovation and Developments in Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance was held by the Macao Polytechnic Institute
In order to explore the development in teaching and learning in countries along the Belt and Road countries and other regions, to share the developments in higher education quality assurance and facilitate the enhancement of quality in higher education in Macao, Macao Polytechnic Institute once again joined forces with the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) to organise the 10th Higher Education International Conference on Innovation and Developments in Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance. Over 40 experts and scholars in higher education coming from the United Kingdom, Portugal, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and other countries and regions gathered in Macao to explore factors affecting the quality of higher education, and share the trends and developments in the quality assurance in teaching and learning. More than two hundred instructors, researchers and students from local higher education institutions attended the seminars and shared their experience with the experts enthusiastically. Many academic achievements were attained.

Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ip Peng Kin leads Macao delegation to attend the 3rd Global Mazu Culture Forum on Meizhou Island
The Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Ip Peng Kin, together with the delegation from Macao, attended the 3rd Global Mazu Culture Forum (“the Forum”) and the 20th China - Meizhou Mazu Cultural Tourism Festival on Meizhou Island in the city of Putian, Fujian Province on 17 – 18 November, and met with Mayor of Putian, Li Jianhui, and Deputy Director of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government, Liu Lianghui, among other personages.

Renowned Chinese writer Wang Anyi to give talk at UM on Chinese literature
The University of Macau (UM) will hold a honoris causa Lecture titled ‘Chinese-Language Literature in a Global Context’ on Monday 3 December. Prof Wang Anyi, a renowned Chinese writer and this year's recipient of the Doctor of Letters honoris causa degree from UM, will be the keynote speaker. She will share her insights on the subject. All are welcome.

Fourth quarterly lucky draw results of Household Budget Survey announced
Data collection for the 2017/2018 Household Budget Survey has been successfully concluded. As a token of appreciation from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), all households who completed the Survey will automatically enter the Cooperating Households Lucky Draw of the quarter, and members of the cooperating households who complete the Expense Diary online are entitled for the Online Expense Diary Lucky Draw of the quarter to get an additional chance of winning. The fourth quarterly draws took place on 16 November, officiated by Ieong Meng Chao, Director of DSEC, Wong Teng Yin, Department Chief, Choi Ka I, Division Chief, and Tang Iok Man, Functional Head.
