UM students win championships at paper plane contest five years in a row

A group of students from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), recently swept the top three prizes for the longest airtime in both the group category and the individual category, at the university level, at the Fourth Greater China Students Paper Plane Contest cum the Eighth Macau Paper Airplane Contest. During the event, UM students competed with more 300 students from over 30 higher education institutions and high schools in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. This is the fifth consecutive year that UM students have won championships at this contest.




Heliport exercise is deemed smooth

The heliport carried out the full scale emergency exercise this early morning (06 December) to test the capacity of the personnel in handling emergencies and train them with the required skills. The exercise simulated the scenario of a tail rotor drive failure after the helicopter has taken off, the accident of which resulted in a forced heavy landing on the mainpad. All responsible parties activated their contingency plans to resolve the crisis.

In this exercise scenario, a helicopter which was carrying two flight crew and three passengers took off from the Macau Outer Harbour Heliport and encountered a tail rotor drive failure. The accident resulted in a forced heavy landing on the mainpad and some parts of the aircraft were detached and scattered on the ground. One passenger suffered from serious injuries while the other two only met minor injuries. The two flight crew did not get hurt. After the accident, the heliport immediately activated the emergency response procedures: putting the fire-fighting system in the standby mode, the fire engines and the ambulances arriving immediately at the ferry terminal, delivering the injured to the hospital, evacuating all personnel and so on.

The exercise began at 07:00 this early morning with the participation of 100 people. The process lasted for about one and a half hour and was deemed smooth.

Consumer Council conducted its second ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 5 December for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Iao Hon Market and the Border Gate area (Portas do Cerco ) in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.


MGTO holds “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” Awards Gala Dinner 2018 Secretary Alexis Tam congratulates award-winning merchants at dinner

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) once again rolled out the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (“QTSAS” or the “Scheme”) for the catering sector and travel agencies this year, and hosted the QTSAS Awards Gala Dinner tonight (5 December) to present awards to the winners. Since its launch in 2014, a total of 260 catering businesses and 36 travel agencies have been presented the “Star Merchant Award” including winners of the year.


Consumer Council announced annual result of “Certified Shops” Over 1,000 shops awarded emblem for next year

The Consumer Council announced the annual assessment result of “Certified Shops”, 1,040 shops passed this year’s assessment and are awarded the 2019 “Certified Shop” emblem, over 800 shops are graded B or above, and 13 of them are graded “Class A Certified Shops”. The Consumer Council awarded the “Class A Certified Shops” on a ceremony held on 5th December and encouraged all shops participating in the mechanism to continue doing business with honesty and integrity to make Macao a safer and better shopping environment.




Government to review talent import proposal

A proposal to attract a greater number of talented individuals from outside Macao to work in the city, would be discussed further by the Talents Development Committee, with more detail to be announced after that, said today the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On.
