Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers increased by 6.0% quarter-to-quarter to MOP880 in the second quarter of 2017. The average daily wage of local (MOP1,091) and non-resident construction workers (MOP775) rose by 4.4% and 3.3% respectively quarter-to-quarter.

In August, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will start to accept the applications for the withdrawal of funds in stages by age group, from eligible provident fund individual account owners. For individuals aged 75 or older, those who have been receiving disability pension from the FSS for more than one year or those who are currently receiving special disability subsidy from the Social Welfare Bureau (SWB), they can start to apply for the withdrawal of funds from their provident fund individual accounts on August 1. Seniors aged between 65 and 74 can start to apply for the withdrawal of funds in September.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that new registration of motor vehicles increased by 22.6% year-on-year to 3,494 in the second quarter of 2017, with that of motorcycles (2,258) surging by 44.0%. New registration of motor vehicles in the first half year of 2017 went up by 6.0% year-on-year to 7,256, attributable to an increase in heavy motorcycles (+21.1%). As at the end of June 2017, total number of licensed motor vehicles dropped by 1.9% year-on-year to 243,570, of which heavy motorcycles (94,600) grew by 3.0% while light automobiles (109,500) decreased by 1.6%. There were 3,630 cases of traffic accidents in the second quarter of 2017 and number of victims totalled 1,141, up by 2.2% and 6.0% respectively year-on-year. In the first half year of 2017, number of traffic accidents fell by 2.9% year-on-year to 7,208 cases, resulting in 2,259 casualties and 4 of them were killed.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for June 2017 amounted to MOP938 million, up by 14.3% year-on-year; value of re-exports (MOP787 million) increased by 17.0%, with that of Machines, apparatus & parts (MOP224 million) surging by 221.6%, and value of domestic exports (MOP151 million) rose by 2.3%. Total merchandise import went up by 10.4% year-on-year to MOP6.17 billion, of which imports of Motor cars & motorcycles and Watches expanded by 96.1% and 51.8% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP5.24 billion.

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, Guangdong and Macao Branded Product Fair 2017 (GMBPF 2017), held for three consecutive days, ended today (30^th) and proved to be a resounding success. The “Guangdong & Macao Delicacies Express”, “Station Avenue”, and four main pavilions had a vibrant and joyful ambience while exhibitors reported pleasing sales volumes. During the three-day event, the number of visitors was pretty much the same as last year and a total of 72 business matching sessions were conducted. This year, GMBPF was, once again, held concurrently with the Macao Franchise Expo 2017. The organisers have arranged exhibitors of the two events to carry out a field trip in Macao in order to enable them to experience the different aspects of Macao and promote the economic development of the Macao community.

In the first half-year of 2017, a total of 171 initial applications for temporary residency for managerial personnel, technical and professional qualification holders were received by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) (a decrease of 5 compared with the same period last year), 6 initial applications for major investment / investment plans (a decrease of 8 compared with the same period last year), representing 96.61% and 3.39% of the total of 177 initial applications in the first half-year of 2017. Approved cases for managerial personnel, technical and professional qualification holders amounted to 158 (an increase of 112 compared with the same period last year), approved applications for major investment / investment plans totalled 4 (an increase of 3 compared with the same period last year).
