The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election has dismissed an objection regarding the revised general list of candidate teams.


UM scholar publishes research work in Molecular Cell

Another professor from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), University of Macau (UM), has made remarkable scientific discoveries. The research work of Dr Vivien Wang Ya-Fan, an assistant professor from the FHS, was recently published in Molecular Cell. A peer-reviewed scientific journal, Molecular Cell is a companion to Cell, the leading journal of biology and the highest-impact journal in the world. Molecular Cell covers research on cell biology at the molecular level, with an emphasis on new mechanistic insights.


Postage paid postcard “Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau Headquarters’ Building”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue a new Postage Paid Postcard with the image of the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau Headquarters’ Building, which is established in 1929, situated at the corner of Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro and Largo do Senado. This postcard will be available for sale at General Post Office, all post offices and postal kiosks on 1st August, 2017.


Alter the Issues Plan 2017

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that an additional new stamp theme will be included on the Issues Plan 2017: “Thangka – Seven Buddhas of the Past” to be issued on 21st November 2017.


Thematic pack “Traditional Chinese Virtues”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will launch the thematic pack “Traditional Chinese Virtues” on 8 August 2017. This pack comprises three stamp issues including "Filial Love" in 2002, "Ethics and Moral Values" in 2007 and "Traditional Chinese Culture" in 2017, conveying the traditional Chinese virtues to all over the world, passing onto the next generation and to spread the education of love and sincerity.


FSS and Fund Management Entities Discuss Implementation Details of Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System

To ensure the smooth implementation of the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System that will come into force on 1 January next year, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) recently had a meeting with the representatives of the fund management entities and the Macao Monetary Authority (abbreviated to AMCM in Macao) to discuss the implementation details and operating procedures of the system as well as the timetable for the participation of the fund management entities in the system.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for June 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours decreased by 4.5% month-to-month to 670,000 in June 2017, yet up by 18.1% year-on-year. Package tour visitors from Mainland China (510,000), the Republic of Korea (40,000) and Taiwan (35,000) increased by 15.8%, 30.7% and 9.5% respectively year-on-year, with those from India (24,000) surged by 167.1%. In the first half year of 2017, visitors on package tours totalled 3,775,000, up by 10.3% year-on-year.


Three PATA Gold Awards go to Macao tourism industry

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) announced the list of 31 winning entries for the 2017 PATA Gold Awards. The accolades will be presented to commend the winning tourism entities and individuals for their remarkable achievements in different categories. Among the awarded entities this year, Sands China Ltd. has won two PATA Gold Awards in the categories of Environment - Corporate Environmental Programme and Marketing Media - Travel Advertisement Broadcast Media, while Melco Resorts & Entertainment is the winner of the PATA Gold Award for Marketing – Hospitality.


Further Macao-Zhuhai agreements to help advance Greater Bay Area development

Macao and Zhuhai have signed a further four agreements strengthening bilateral ties, so as to advance the development of a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


Ten teams will dazzle evenings with spectacular fireworks in Fireworks Contest

The 29th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest (“the Contest”) will be staged above the sea area in front of the Macau Tower on 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd September and 1st October. The event will line up ten internationally-renowned teams ready to light up the night sky with spectacular fireworks orchestrated to music and laser effects, promising a range of stunning multimedia pyrotechnic shows for the audience. The Fireworks Carnival will be held concurrently as a side event that brings together vibrant performances, tasty delicacies and fun games beneath the fireworks. Through the above, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) aspires to weave various fascinating elements into an array of wonderful and memorable fireworks evenings for residents and visitors.
