UM’s science summer camp opens

The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) recently held an opening ceremony for its Summer Camp 2017. The event attracted over 100 people, including prominent members of the community, local secondary school teachers, as well as students and their parents. Philip Chen, dean of the FST, pointed out that this year’s camp covers six different topics in science and technology, adding that through interactive games and experiments, the camp aims to help participants discover their interests and potential in science and technology and to improve their organisational skills and teamwork.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in July on 24 July for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Horte e Costa, Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga and Rua da Emenda areas in Santo António Parish.


Services of St. Lazarus Parish Field Office of FSS to be Provided at its Temporary Office at Tap Seac

In line with the commencement of renovation works, the St. Lazarus Parish Field Office of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will be fully closed on August 7, and the service counters of the office will start to move to the temporary office located at the Exhibition Hall of Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion from next Monday. Members of the public doing business with the FSS are required to pay attention to the removal date of the service counters.

UM PhD student receives Best Presentation Award at Computer Graphics International

Hu Xiaoxiao, a PhD student from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology, recently received the Best Presentation Award, for her paper titled ‘Phase Based Edge Detection Algorithms’, at Computer Graphics International, one of the oldest annual international conferences on computer graphics.


FSS Introduces Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System to Gambling Enterprises

In order to let the community learn more about the "Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System", the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) has started to make visits and invite employers from different industries to have a meeting with them in order to explain the system. The Vice-President of the Administrative Committee of the FSS, Chan Pou Wan and others recently had a meeting with the representatives of the six major gambling enterprises at the headquarters of the FSS, for the exchange of ideas on the contents and implementation details of the system. The FSS hopes to deepen the understanding of the gambling enterprises of the new law in order to facilitate the voluntary participation of the enterprises into the non-mandatory central provident fund system.

Updated legislation to advance Macao’s anti-money laundering effort

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac, said he was confident that recently updated local legislation would facilitate prosecutions regarding suspected money laundering crimes, and lead to a higher incidence of convictions for such offences.
