Visitor arrivals for June 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,378,615 in June 2017, up slightly by 0.9% year-on-year but down by 7.5% month-to-month. Overnight visitors (1,348,607) went up by 10.1% year-on-year while same-day visitors (1,030,008) decreased by 9.1%. The average length of stay of visitors rose by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.3 days; the average length of stay of overnight visitors dropped by 0.1 day year-on-year to 2.1 days, whereas that of same-day visitors remained unchanged at 0.2 day.


Consumer Council released revised Code of Practice for Mobile Phone Retail Industry

After researching and making consultation, the Consumer Council announced the “Code of Practice” for the Retail Industry of Mobile Phones to adapt the development and changes of the mobile phone retail market. The Council indicates that all “Certified Shops” in the mobile phone retail industry must abide by the Code, failure to do so will lead to the loss of entitlement to the “Certified Shop” emblem. The revised Code enables consumers to be informed of the origin of mobile phones, terms for product exchange, as well as the right of consumers to enjoy after-sales service.


Registration for Seminar “New Trend in Online and Theater Film Distribution” is open

The seminar “New Trend in Online and Theater Film Distribution” will be held on Wednesday, 26 July, at 2:30pm, at the Ballroom on the first floor of the Regency Art Hotel Macao. Online registration for the seminar is available from today until Monday, 24 July, at 5pm. Admission is free. All interested parties are welcome to participate. The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese, with Portuguese and English interpretation provided.


“Macao Pavilion” returns to the Hong Kong Book Fair for the seventh consecutive year

The Macao Foundation and the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) cooperates for the seventh consecutive year in setting up the “Macao Pavilion” at the “2017 Hong Kong Book Fair”, holding a joint exhibition with the Macao Polytechnic Institute and the bookshopPlaza Cultural Macau, Lda.. In order to promote Macao’s diversified publishing culture, the organizer will display excellent works by local entities in the publishing sector, including Pen of Macau, Association of Stories in Macao, New Generation Culture Association, University of East Asia Open College Students’ Association, Cultural Guildhall, Macao Carpentry Trade Union, Ox Warehouse, Macao Theatre Culture Institute, Step Out, Comuna de Pedra Arts and Culture Association, Hiu Kok Drama Association and Blue Blue Sky Arts Association, among others.


Consumer price index (CPI) for June 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in June 2017 increased by 1.06% year-on-year to 109.44, higher than the 0.95% growth in May 2017. The increment was attributable to dearer charges for outpatient services, eating out and domestic services, rising tuition fees, as well as increases in vehicle prices and parking meter rates.

UM student wins bronze medal at international robotics competition

Chio Wan Long, a first-year student from the Department of Computer and Information Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), recently won a bronze medal at WorldSkills Hong Kong 2017 - Mobile Robotics. Chio’s medal-winning robot was developed under the supervision of Associate Professor Vong Chi Man.
