The Macao Chinese Orchestra’s Concert Season Closing Concert “Encounter with Chinese Music” to be held on Friday

The Macao Chinese Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the 2016-2017 season closing concert “Encounter with Chinese Music” on Friday, 21 July, at 8pm, at the Dom Pedro V Theatre. Tickets are now available at Macao Ticketing Network.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for May 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the business performance of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments in May 2017 was less satisfactory than in April, with 46% of the establishments reporting a year-on-year growth in receipts, down by 6 percentage points from April. The corresponding proportions of Japanese & Korean Restaurants (25%) and Western Restaurants (35%) went down by 31 and 15 percentage points respectively, while the share of Chinese Restaurants (63%) went up by 5 percentage points. On the other hand, the proportion of establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts increased by 10 percentage points from April to 33%, with the corresponding proportions of Other Restaurants & Similar Establishments (41%), Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (31%) and Western Restaurants (30%) each growing by 10 percentage points.


Consumer Council released its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on Sé, Taipa and Coloane Parish

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in July on 18 and 19 July for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets in Sé, Taipa and Coloane Parish.


APG Mutual Evaluation Report Appreciates Efforts of Macao SAR Government in Gaming Supervision

Macao has obtained a substantial rating in the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) 2017 regarding the effectiveness of supervision, which is not a common achievement among jurisdictions worldwide being evaluated. According to the MER 2017, licensing controls are robust in the Macao gaming sector for both concessionaires/sub-concessionaires and junket promoters. Macao SAR Government is taking a more stringent approach towards licensing and the supervision of junket promoters which are also subject to enforceable AML/CFT requirements. The MER also states that Macao SAR Government has applied AML/CFT measures, including licensing and fit and proper test requirements to include junket promoters and their formal collaborators.


Asia/Pacific Group of Money Laundering (APG) Adopted the Mutual Evaluation Report of Macao, SAR

Asia/Pacific Group of Money Laundering (APG), the international organization on Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, on 19 July adopted the Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) of Macao SAR in its Annual Meeting which is being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Macao SAR obtains an outstanding result both in terms of the technical compliance of legal framework as well as the effectiveness in implementation of measures against money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing. This 2017 APG/GIFCS Mutual Evaluation Report provides a solid and authoritative proof of Macao SAR’s strong efforts by both the public and private sectors in the prevention and fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing. The Macao SAR Government will continue its ongoing efforts in the stringent implementation of measures against money laundering and financing of terrorism.


UM’s research team receives awards at annual meeting of Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging

After receiving the first prize at the Asian Nuclear Medicine Academic Forum earlier, the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory (BIG) from the University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) shined again on world stage. The team received the third prize of the Computer and Instrumentation Council (CalC) Young Investigator Award (YIA) and the International Best Abstract Award at the 64th Annual Meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging held in Denver, United States, for their works titled ‘BIGDOSE: Software for 3D Personalised Targeted Radionuclide Therapy Dosimetry’, and ‘High-Performance Virtual CT for Enhanced Targeted Radionuclide Therapy Dosimetry’, respectively. This is the first time a research team from the Greater China region has been shortlisted for, and received an award in this YIA category.


Identification Services Bureau sets up a Self-Service Station at Seac Pai Van in Coloane

For the convenience of residents of the outlying islands to use public self-services, the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) sets up a self-service station at Seac Pai Van in Coloane. The station is put into official use starting from 19 July 2017.


Consumer Council conducted price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council collected prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets on 18 July. The mentioned data collected during 12 July to 18 July are used for comparing the average selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai, and also for comparing the average prices of the two food items from Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao in the previous month. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.
