CE: ‘Mayors’ Visiting Program’ promotes complementary benefits

The “Mayors’ Visiting Program” was an effective platform for strengthening cooperation in cultural affairs and economy and trade matters, for the benefit of all economies in the participating places, said the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On.


MPI Held Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2016-2017

The Macao Polytechnic Institute held the graduation ceremony for the academic year 2016-2017, witnessing a total cohort of 650 students graduating from its 20 Bachelor's degree programs and majors this year. The Chief Executive of Macao Dr. Chui Sai On officiated the ceremony and underscored the SAR government's commitments to promoting the development of education, and to driving the education industry towards modernization and smart management, and stimulating innovation in education. The SAR government is resolved to establish effective and sustained mechanisms for its education system and talents training. To that effect, the government pledged mufti-layered measures to develop the education industry, through policy supports, resource investment, continuous refinement of mechanisms etc. The Chief Executive also encouraged MPI to leverage its unique strengths and advantages so as to provide more professional and practical talents to Macao.


UM students meet with president of Portugal

A delegation of 15 students and faculty members from the University of Macau (UM) participated in an annual study mission to Europe organised under the European Union Academic Programme in Macao (EUAP-M). During the study mission, they met with President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who explained the significance of European studies in the current international context.


MGTO attends APEC High Level Policy Dialogue

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) attended the “Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High Level Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Tourism” in Vietnam. The Office hoped to exchange information about diversification and sustainable development of the tourism industry, as well as to raise Macao’s visibility and participation in international tourism associations through this attendance.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for April 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated an improvement in business of restaurants & similar establishments in April 2017, with 52% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reporting a year-on-year growth in receipts, up by 5 percentage points from March. The corresponding proportions of Western Restaurants (50%) and Chinese Restaurants (58%) increased by 15 and 10 percentage points respectively from March. On the other hand, the proportion of establishments recording a year-on-year decline in receipts went down by 12 percentage points to 23%, with the corresponding proportions of Western Restaurants, Chinese Restaurants and Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops reducing by 30, 16 and 14 percentage points respectively.


Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund Law to Enter into Force on January 1 next year

Law 7/2017, the “Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System” will enter into force on 1 January 2018, with the aim of strengthening the protection of the living of the Macao residents in their old age. In order to raise public awareness of the Law, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will carry out a series of publicity and education work.

Supported by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and coordinated by Macau Travel Agency Association, the 5th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (“the Expo” or “MITE”) will be held at Hall D, Cotai Expo of the Venetian Macao from 7th to 9th July. MGTO and Macau Travel Agency Association held a joint press conference today (16th June) to unveil the event program this year.


OM’s Music Director Lü Jia deciphers classical pieces next month in concert with free admission

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the concert “When Music Speaks”, part of the concert series “Music for All”, on Saturday, 8 July, at 8pm, at the Dom Pedro V Theatre. World-renowned conductor Lü Jia, OM’s Music Director and Principal Conductor, will meet music fans face-to-face and elaborate on chamber music of Mozart and Mendelssohn. Admission to the concert is free.


Organizing Committee striving for innovation and improvement to guide audience on a New Avenue to the year-end 2nd International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao

The 2nd International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao (IFFAM) will be held from 8th to 14th December this year. The IFFAM Organizing Committee announced the theme “A New Avenue to the World of Films”, the line up of the new International Professional Team as well as other details during the Kick-Off Ceremony today (16 June). Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and President of the IFFAM Organizing Committee, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Artistic Director of IFFAM Mike Goodridge, Talent Ambassador Miriam Yeung attended the event among other prestigious guests.


“Where the World Heritage Shines – Photography Exhibition of the Historic Centre of Macao” opens in Guimarães in June

“Where the World Heritage Shines – Photography Exhibition of the Historic Centre of Macao”, jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Municipality of Guimarães and the Vila Flor Cultural Centre, will be inaugurated on Friday, 23 June 2017, at 6:30pm, at the Vila Flor Palace in Guimarães, Portugal. The exhibition features more than 90 photographs of the world heritage listed Historic Centre of Macao taken by local photographer Chan Hin Io, revealing the beauty and vitality of Macao’s cultural heritage and showing the charm of this small city through various angles.
