Global Tourism Economy Forum • Macao 2018 unfolds spectacular programme Ministers, CEOs and experts lead an insightful dialogue

Under the theme of “Strategic Partnership in a New Era, Rising Momentum for a Shared Future”, the Global Tourism Economy Forum • Macao 2018 (“GTEF” or “the Forum”) features a series of thought-provoking discussions and exchange sessions, as well as business matching and an exhibition, among other program highlights. Various discussion panels were unfolded at MGM Cotai in Macao.



Global Tourism Economy Forum • Macao 2018 proudly presents “Strategic Partnership in a New Era, Rising Momentum for a Shared Future”

The Global Tourism Economy Forum • Macao 2018 (“GTEF” or “the Forum”) was unveiled today (23 October) with an opening ceremony at MGM Cotai in Macao. Under the theme of “Strategic Partnership in a New Era, Rising Momentum for a Shared Future”, this edition of GTEF features the European Union (“EU”) as its Partner Region and Guangdong as its Featured Partner Chinese Province, and leads a series of profound dialogues on the new momentum of strategic collaboration between EU and China with a special focus on cooperation across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Over 1,500 ministerial officials of tourism and related fields, industry leaders, experts, scholars and participants from different countries and regions across the globe, including delegations from the 28 member states of theEU and Guangdong Province, convene in Macao for this edition of GTEF. Over 120 journalists from international and local media are here to cover the two-day event.


CE: HKZM Bridge to facilitate Macao play role in national development

President Xi Jinping today inaugurated the 55-kilometre (km)-long sea crossing during the opening event in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. The Bridge will open to traffic at 9:00am tomorrow (24 October).


Macao SAR Government, UNWTO to extend tourism education memorandum of understanding

The Macao SAR Government and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) have agreed to extend – by 1 year – the validity of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism education and training cooperation. The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), via its Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training, is playing a cornerstone role in the implementation of the existing MoU and the work to be conducted in the extension period.





Visitor arrivals for September 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,561,274 in September 2018, up by 3.0% year-on-year but down by 24.7% month-to-month. Overnight visitors (1,408,326) and same-day visitors (1,152,948) grew by 1.9% and 4.4% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors increased by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.4 days, with that of overnight visitors rising by 0.2 day to 2.4 days while that of same-day visitors staying at 0.2 day.


FSS Visits Macau Youth Entrepreneur Association to Promote the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System

In order to deepen the awareness of young employers on the non-mandatory central provident fund system and encourage their participation, Iong Kong Io, President of the Administrative Committee of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao), recently visited the Macau Youth Entrepreneur Association and exchanged views with members of the Association on the contents of the non-mandatory central provident fund system, and its latest development, on the theme of “Participating in Central Provident Fund System for Greater Peace of Mind in Your Retirement”.
